Re: 81 Rabbit Wheel/Hubcap Advice

The wheel you are showing in the picture is a newer wheel. Maybe a Mk11. The Rabbit wheels are fat looking and are hard to fit a hub cap on. They can with just a center metal cap. I've been putting cheap plastic hub caps on both type of wheels for years. You just have to make sure they are concave ...

Re: 81 Rabbit Wheel/Hubcap Advice

What kind of hubcap are you looking for? Just one that covers the center? They make a shiney tin center cap,.. but it needs clips that can be hard to find or mount. I wasn't sure what it came with originally. It almost looks like there was a center cap because there's 4 smaller holes beside the lug...

Re: 81 Rabbit Wheel/Hubcap Advice

I have a few bare 13" wheels in my shed but shipping anything for me is usually a hassle. If you're desperate I can see what I can do. Thanks Bob, I would just hold on to those wheels. It would probably cost a fortune to ship them anyway. I am just wondering if another 13 inch wheel from a dif...

81 Rabbit Wheel/Hubcap Advice

I have run into a dilemma with the wheels on this Rabbit I bought. I originally ordered cheap plastic hubcaps like the ones I put on my golf. They won't fit the wheels on this rabbit because the center is offset. Now, to make matters better, I took it to have the tires rotated and balanced because i...

Re: New Acquistion

I love white. I've been saving two heads with the turbo's on them just incase I ran across something like that. I've had them so long a guy talked me out of the turbo and manifold on one of them. You can have those heads if you pry them out of my cold dead hands. It was originally red, white is che...

Someone else found a washer that works but I can't remember the size.
Thanks again fat, it made a much narrower search when I put your name in, much easier. Once I get it apart, if I have any other questions I'll post them here.

Re: 81 Rabbit Odometer

You should open it up and see what's wrong. It could still be a gear. I don't think mine was clicking last time the gear cracked. I think I posted in a a fix topic on here so search using my name. I found 2 results that look similar. Looks like you used a piece of 3/8" copper tubing. Sound fam...

Re: 81 Rabbit Odometer

mine was skipping but the gear may have broken in half. I used 5 minute epoxy instead of superglue since it is much more resilient. That would probably work even on a broken gear unless teeth are gone. I have a broken speedo for a 79, but I believe the gears are good, just the needle part seized up...

Re: 81 Rabbit Odometer

See Roger Brown's site here on the subject http://www.4crawler.com/Diesel/CheapTricks/Odometer.shtml I have used this on two Rabbits including my daily driver - has lasted 11 years so far I looked at that, seems like a pretty easy fix. But the description is for one that's skipping and the gear cra...

Usually just a gear that needs fixed.
The fix is posted on here somewhere.
Okay, thanks fat, I did a search earlier and didn't go through all the results. It wasn't on the first page of search results though. I'll keep looking.

81 Rabbit Odometer

The odometer and trip odometer on this little rabbit I just bought don't work. I was just wondering if anyone here has fooled with one and fixed it themselves. If so, how much trouble is it?

New Acquistion

What's going on guys? I just bought another project I guess. An 81 Rabbit. I probably need to have my head examined because I have plenty to do without working on another vehicle. Anyway, as previously mentioned in another thread. I have an 86 Golf that is using a lot of oil. So I thought I would ge...

Re: Oil In Coolant

It probably won't reduce oil consumption but it will keep you from blowing all the PCV oil on the ground. The '86 NA does have the restrictors in the intake. They can both be drilled out. I ran the drill bit through a 1/2" copper T, with a reducer on the end so it would sit closer to the bit. ...
