Re: You know what really grinds my gears,

I know.
I always try to turn my neck and check the next lane before I change lanes.
It's not near as easy to see a car in the next lane while driving the Mk4 Jetta.

Maybe it's because there isn't a hatch,..
I haven't tried the MK4 Golf.

Re: Little red pickup

He called today and said it started just fine at 58F.
Maybe the ride home cleaned out an injector.

Re: Little red pickup

I think so. It's hard to believe a reservoir cap would cause a blown head gasket before it blew a radiator or coolant reservoir. It still starts rough when not plugged in but I sent it home with him. He'll clean the reservoir and see if any more oil gathers there. I pulled all the glow plugs and tes...

Re: free parts

Oh I see it's for use without a center console.
Have you seen the accordian boots for the Mk2?
I like them better than the bag and they are cheap.

Re: Little red pickup

OOps I stuck this post in the wrong thread. It is having a problem on cold startup. It stumbles and puts out the white smoke. After starting it I need to rev it some to get it to smooth out. Then it runs great. So I checked the timing with the pulse detector and it was a little retarded so I advance...

Re: free parts

Wow those are pretty cool.
Good job making special parts for the watercooled VWs.
I like the Mk2 strut spacers.

Re: Anyone ‘here’ have experience with Han Auto Parts

I've heard of a couple people having problems with a pump they got from him.
He probably made it right with them though.

Re: How do you Prove a Off-The Shelf used injection pump!

Glad to hear you got it spinning. That's a start. A 12 volt helper pump will help get fuel from the tank but the vanes inside the pump push the pressure up around 150psi. That pressure controls the timing curve. Without it the timing curve will be flat retarded at higher RPMs. Maybe it's because I'v...

Re: How do you Prove a Off-The Shelf used injection pump!

Ha, you answered my "why's it so dark"? question before I asked. I have only once heard of someone breaking the mainshaft at the thinnest point doing this. So keep the speed down. No need to make it spin fast. This is a great plan. Hearing that it sat for 30 years isn't good. Have you ever...

Re: RIP "Old Blue"

I've been stuffing a 3/4" washer into the end of the column to hold everything in. It usually works but I had one fall out so I made a tin thing bent around the column to hold it in. I have needed the delrin bushing,.. like I needed one on this truck. To take the slop out of the right rod comin...

Re: RIP "Old Blue"

The supply chain problems are effecting parts for repairing many cars. I wonder if that will effect the old cars like rabbits. I got those 2-notch head gaskets for $20 shipped. That's pretty cheap,.. they were on the clearance rack. I think there is a pretty good stockpile on VW rabbit parts. Compar...

Re: RIP "Old Blue"

I built that better VNT15 controller. Using the stock Vnt-15 controller spring reversed so it would be controlled by boost instead of the computer controlled vacuum it came with. Took it out for a test run. It worked perfect 1st gear the boost hit 15 - 18 and the EGTs popped up to 1200 and stayed th...

Re: Little red pickup

It never overheated.
The temp gauge sat perfect in the center.
The whole time it was overpressure.

I didn't take it into town today.
A couple more trips out of town a ways and back
before I try that.
