Re: Looking for advice N/A 1.6?

I don't think I need to worry about anything.. Got the can of liqui moly diesel purge in the mail last night, that I ordered after I started this thread. Ran it threw the pump like I had seen on Google, with a filter on the return line. After about 5 minutes of running it at a high idle it started t...

Re: Looking for advice N/A 1.6?

So I have one more dumb question before I give up on this thread. Injector breaking pressure.... I'm a cheap SOB, and all I can find for "used" injectors are turbo 155 bar injectors. I've tried to find a definitive answer to what happens if you run them on a N/A motor, but haven't found on...

N/A 1.6. Sucking air from tank?

So I've been fighting air in my fuel system over the past week. For some reason, my 1.6 is sucking a lot of air from the tank? Quite often the glow plug light flashes, then stays on steady. My car still has the water separator on it. How do I delete it without triggering a flashing glow plug light? ...

Re: Looking for advice N/A 1.6?

I'm gonna have to look into my alternator issue. But it started squealing, so I think it took a dump. Dies when I pull the battery cable, and had to boost it after running it for a bit. Someone rewired it, and all the wires are black now.. lol But I can replace that harness with one from my parts ca...

Re: Looking for advice N/A 1.6?

Air in the little injector lines is totally normal. There isn't much fuel flow through those lines, it's mostly the fuel that slips by the injector guts as the fuel lubricates the moving parts. The air in the small lines may be accumulated over a longer period of time. Air in the pump gets whipped ...

Re: Looking for advice N/A 1.6?

So I got bored, and bought some clear fuel line today. It's doesn't look like I'm sucking air from the pump. But the return lines wouldn't fill? I let it run for about a half hour, and they still only filled about halfway. It was forcing air threw the line to the filter. It would burp air every now,...

Bummer.
Thought I was on to something.. lol

Re: 1.6d performance mods??

I got to thinking here today...
Could you use a lightened flywheel, and clutch setup for a 1.8 on the Diesel?
A lightened flywheel would be a great addition to these anemic turds. If the ones off a gas motor would work..

Re: 1.6NA turbo swap

Are you still running the stock injectors, and IP?
I have read that doing a turbo swap on the n/a is a bad idea...
The fact that the Pistons are different, and it has no oil squirters significantly shortens engine life.
I'd still like to do it though.. lol

Re: Is using a header from a gas motor worth any gains?

The Giles pump is worth every penny. I had one on my 91 Jetta. It was amazing. I'm still contemplating on the future of this rig? If it was making 75hp it would be way better. A turbo would be a lot better. But I don't know if the diesel is really what I want yet. I'm gonna drive it for a bit, and ...

Re: Looking for advice N/A 1.6?

You can do this. I'm an idiot and even I can do this. There is plenty of help from IDI advocates all over the place. An average driver does 15,000 miles/yr. That's 1500 gallons of gas a year at 2.25/gal = $3,375/yr. for your current daily-driver. With the Golf: Divide that by four = $843.75. You'll...

Re: Looking for advice N/A 1.6?

Do you still have the water separator hooked up? It's by the RR wheel. Problem waiting to happen. You can save some money by adjusting the timing yourself. It's a trial and error project anyway and most mechanics don't have time to set it right. Just make a mark where the pump meets the bracket, us...

Re: Is using a header from a gas motor worth any gains?

Cool.
I posted this twice, kinda messed myself up.
Thanx though.

I'd really like to see what's out there for performance IP's. The Giles pump is $900 just for the rebuild. That's pretty expensive.

Re: 1.6d performance mods??

Well at least I'm not alone.. lol Had had the idea of a Subaru hood scoop, in a ram air type fashion.. What's your take on the header? I still think the added airflow, and opened exhaust could help lower EGT's so you could possibly turn it up a bit more?? I worry about turning it up to much, and hur...
