Re: Diesel Fuel Tank Removal
For cleaning out a tank, I use an electric fuel pump with a filter in front of it. It sucks up all the crap in the tank, filters it, then runs back into the tank to rinse it out. Kind of like vacuuming the tank but with liquid. Congrats on finding a MK2 golf to work on. I think the '85 golf is the o...

Well good thing they put the timing piston cover in the front where it's easy to get to.

Re: Altitude clatter from N/A
So you live in Mexico?
Or are you just visiting.
I heard the hurricane really hit hard, left a lot of people in a bad situation.
I wonder if adding some gas to the diesel would get rid of the knock.
You'd have to add lubricity too, like 2-stroke oil.

Re: Altitude clatter from N/A
I think octane speeds up the burn and cetane slows it down.
I might have that backwards though.
Putting an extra shim in might work.
Especially when it's running at higher RPMs.
I had to put one in a knocky rabbit. It did quite the noise down when I reved it.

Re: Oil leak at front of camshaft
Yep, that's how I first heard of it.
I thought I had a picture of the TDI cap setup and how it drains the pressure.
But can't find it.

Another part I need to start gathering into the hoard.

Wow with the bracket.
I don't think I've seen that before.
I'm so cheap, I rebuild calipers.
They do look nice when they are painted.

Re: Oil leak at front of camshaft
Right, that could be it. Permatex #2.
I always thought part of the problem was the cam tapering right up to the seal.
It doesn't look like the outer lip of the seal is even touching the cam.
So it was nice to see the TDI cam seal sit so deep.

Re: Oil leak at front of camshaft
You won't put the #1 cap on wrong. There is a sealant, I'd have to check my tube but I think it is #2. My mechanic used to call it aviation sealant. It is kind of dark brown and never hardens. I started putting a thin film of it on the #1 cam cap surface, where it's metal on metal. I used to always ...

With Rock Auto it's great if you can get the parts from the same distributor,.. or you end up paying several shipping charges.

Is that 3 cents for the whole set of o-rings? Or each, for the set of 172 o-rings?
Says they are nylon, that's strange.

Re: RIP "Old Blue"
Yeah, the pickups are getting pricey. I had a chance to get a caddy in a box, with a great engine and some assembly required for $1800. I was too busy. I might be able to put a 2-door front on a pickup this summer. Here's the 4th episode of 2022 body work on the stainless rabbit: After I pulled the ...
