Re: Smoky old IP
Thank you very much folks, for the excellent suggestions. I am looking for a spare IP somewhere in my pile of parts to replace the one in the rig. May not be the best, but might run better. Can't swing spending the funds right now for a properly running IP. I need to check out the compression, yes. ...

Smoky old IP
Recently picked up a 1981 Rabbit pickup that had been sitting for at least three years. PO had run homemade biofuel of questionable quality, but at least it had been running when they parked it. The truck wants to run, but only when I pull fuel through the IP manually. The engine shuts down when the...

Re: Which injector bodies are best?
I am referring to the single spring long bodies.
Why do you feel n/a pressures in a TD are better than 155 BAR?
And thanks for responding Quantum Man, you have been on here for some time.

Which injector bodies are best?
I still drive my old '90 Jetta turbo diesel. Need to rebuild injectors and wondered if anyone had enough experience with the short versus long bodies, and which you preferred. Currently the ol' girl has long bodies adjusted to around 145. I can get the short bodies I have on hand readjusted to 155 B...

Re: good transmission for mpgs?
Yes, I did change the 4th and 5th from the 7A to my tranny. Was real happy with the progression through the gears, especially being able to cruise at higher speed and lower rpm's.

Re: good transmission for mpgs?
I have been into these tranny's quite a bit, and see no real difference in them at all. The gears work the same in all, and the construction is the same. One needs to be sure you have good motor mounts, and that all else is tight, otherwise.........no problem.

Re: good transmission for mpgs?
I drive a Jetta, put together from parts of all the A2 years, including transmissions. Gas trannys into the diesel work fine. One of the last I did was to take the 4th and 5th from a 7A and put it into my ACN. Loved it, especially the 3rd, 4th, and 5th range for driving. Had something come loose rec...

Alternator experience
I will report this for others who have a similar problem. Th car is a '91, 1.6L TD, no air, no power string. The tach was acting erratic and the alternator light was flickering; but sometimes everything would suddenly work fine. Then........the next time I would start the car, the same thing would h...

Re: These little diesel motors are bulletproof...almost
Well, after a couple of tanks of fuel, it appears that 52-55 mpg will be the yield. I am really pleased with the way the car drives now, and it does not burn oil at all. After the earlier re-build at a shop it would burn a quart per tank. Travel is mostly 55-70, depending on the road, no AC, a diffe...

These little diesel motors are bulletproof...almost
I'm just a regular slamiel with a 1.6 diesel Jetta who does what he can with the help of some real good folks on vwdiesel. But.....having said that....I reworked my injectors along the lines of Hagar's advice, that is, to put the bodies together so they tighten at about the same spot for each inject...

Wheels for sale
Two sets. One is a Ronal set, the other VW. There is some road rash, but not bad.
Not sure what they are worth. Would like to get $125 each set or $200 for both.

Curious pump problem
When shifting, my pump is staying in acceleration mode instead of backing off when I take my foot off the accelerator. At times it increases right on up in the tach if I don't slow it down manually. After it warms up it seems to operate properly. Is my spring the problem or is there a lubrication th...

I can't sell the car; there's too much of my blood on the parts from scraping my knuckles.
