Re: 1985 golf diesel front conversion to round headlights

The sealed beam is old school. The newer H4 housings are great. Relay the lights so you don't burn your switch up. I ran a couple different bulbs and liked the 90/100w white best so far. The blue I ran were great except when it was new blacktop, wet road, and the road signs were a little weird refle...

Re: 1985 golf diesel front conversion to round headlights

http://store.concept1.ca/store/category/17/32/Water-Cooled/MK1-MK2/page2.html They used to have core supports, but I cannot find them now. MK2 7" rounds are not the same as MK1 7" rounds so don't buy wrong on that. Same with the core supports. MK1 and 2 are totoally different. found them: ...

Re: Add oil squirters to 1.6 na?

It has been done, certain blocks already have the flat machined in and all you need to do is drill the correct hole size and at the correct angle. IIRC it was 15 degrees, but I am guessing, I have no clue. Measure a real TD engine and you will know for sure.

Re: 83 rabbit Electrical - What's This? Where does it go?

MK2 cars had an A/C cut that tied into the coolant sensor on the front of the head. I think the wire that is cut could be part of that. IIRC it cut the a/c and powers the rad fan when temps were too high for a/c but before normal fan operation...could be off on how it works, but it is in there and c...

Re: Keyed power source (for stereo, gauge bulbs, etc)

I tapped into one of the accesory fuse sockets IIRC it was the top side that gives power. I did it with a spade terminal then put an inline fuse holder on that wire. Easy to do even without a bentley if you have the keys and a test light.

I take my wheel bolts to 90ft/lbs. I have never bought new and never broken one. Is something else going on with yours?

Re: Vane stlye pump

I do not know for sure, but on another forum there is a guy "ROR" that had an engine that had a different height oil pump or something and the newer vane pump wouldn't work until he swapped out the oil pump with a newer one? I am NOT for sure how it works, but there was a thread about it. ...

Re: two cars side by side swapping engines... busted cam end

The older hex bolts are no longer available. The newer TDI 12pt stretch type bolt is available and not reusable. The older design is technically reusable, but if you have to remove the old I would put the new in. Make sure to get a good hold on it as IIRC the torque for the 12pt bolt is 140lbs plus ...

Re: two cars side by side swapping engines... busted cam end

One tap from a brass or rubber mallet is all it takes me. IIRC a puller will not work for that type of press fit.

Re: No reverse, 2001 Jetta

The newer autos are complete junk. Usually only get 150,000 out of them. Usually it is the forward gears, but I would suspect similar for the reverse. Most with autos usually get a manual to swap rather than replace the auto. Cost is about the same usually.

Re: Head gasket - which way?

It is somewhat tricky but in the mk2 I got it to go over the studs with the tubo bolted onto the head.
