I would replace the rings if you already have it apart inspecting everything, at the least. Unless you like pulling this engine, taking the head off, and doing more work later. I sorted mine by making a spacer for the alt to shim the pulley to where it was close to perfect. Also, if you still have the old bracket you could weld in some flat stock and repair it to work better than it was.

Since you didn't know what they were you probably don't know that you have to torque them to 51ft/lbs and to tighten toward the head, not away. If you do this incorrectly it will break the boss on the front side of the head. Do not keep tightening until the head breaks.
