cam sprocket

on my 90 n/a the cam spocket did not have a registration that I could find so I marked it with nail polish(paint) before I removed to ensure proper tooth timing. not sure if this is necessary on yours. just a thought.

Valve Stem Seals

Going to pic up head tomorrow. pressure test good! no cracks there. they said the bottom was a little warped(7/1000) so they machined it there. hopefully this won't adversely affect the compression. I for got to take my new valve stem seals to the head shop. how do I replace? head shop not open on w...

piston protrusion

Piston Protrusion/head gasket: For the 1.6, the Bentley says that a piston protrusion of .67-.82 mm gets the one notch head gasket; .83-.92 gets the two notch; .93-1.02 gets the three notch. ok. got the head off today. small cracks of course between valves. doesn't look too bad. had coolant in #2 c...

pulling head

I am going to start pulling the head this weekend. I looked over the bentley a couple of times and I was wondering why I need to remove the vbelts to take the head off. seems like I could just release the tensioner pulley and leave the vbelts on. it has been a while since I pulled the head on the td...

head pressure test

I called a cylinder head shop here ion town and he said I should pressure test to check for a crack that can cause pressure to enter coolant system. $40 and he checks for warpage as well. does the pressure test test for pressure to coolant leaks? if so I should go ahead and do that because that is t...

prehead removal

to check for warpage...what kind of staight edge would I need. I have a staight edge/square typically for wood work, and I have feeler gages. and I'll check around town for pricing for squareness. one place before quoted around $50. seems like a lot for a staight edge and a feeler gage run on it's s...

headgasket

It sounds like you've come a long way since you first posted here. First thing, I'd check to see if coolant is coming through the small line going from radiator to resevoir. If that's clogged it will trap air in the cooling system and cause overheating and pressure. Next I'd remove the resevoir cap...

Coolant leaking out of reservoir

History: I bought this car about six weeks ago. have been driving it daily to work. did not know the maintainence history (previous owner said it was not a daily driver, had been sitting, said he changed pump to engine hose and thermostat) so I changed the the timing belt and vbelts, fuel filter, ai...

Re: Hey Mr. Joe--

I know I'm late to the party, and it is a long shot, but there was a massive recall that affected pretty much all A2's that revolved around the heater core leaking and spewing molten coolant all over the passenger. It is a long shot, but you might want to see if that car has ever had that recall pe...

Injection Pump head gasket repair on vehicle success

EDIT: Read through the rest of this thread or this may very well not work. Okay, I did it on the bench. The process looks very straightforward, but would need to be performed systematically or else disaster might result. Here is the process I would take. The scariest issue IMO is the cleanliness is...
