Re: No heat help.

That's probably it. I did just the opposite I cleaned off the rest of the foam when I changed the heater core. The pieces of foam were blowing through the vents. Luckily I never put in the console or the knee bar suspecting I was going to have to take it apart again. Thanks for the tip about not tak...

It does have AC but I took out the hoses for it and left the rest in side. I do fell cold air coming in on the Passenger side. Whe...

Re: Rear Seat Replacement

Your talking 10 year difference. I'd measure it. See if you can take one out, and look at the way it's mounted.

Re: Frozen tie rods

I didn't heat it up and shock it with water or wd40, But it is a interesting idea Fatmobile. I did buy that inner tie rad tool. I figure that doing the job myself pays for it ($39.99 on sale). Inch and a quarter fits really good. It's about one sixyfourth bigger that 32mm. If anyone around here want...

Re: 1.5 intermittent starting troubleshooting

When you do a compression test it's usually done though where the glow plugs are installed. When the plug is out you can test it by running wire from the body of the plug to the negative side of the battery and from the glow plug terminal to the positive side of the battery. Don't keep it on to long...

Re: Shifter Alignment

I don't remember if the exhaust was in the way. I didn't do the whole job from underneath. When you start the installation think about what angle would be the best to reach where you're working. What is called the dog bone (It's pretty evident which one it is by looks) is a popular piece that wears ...

Re: Frozen tie rods

After last night I was only able to get one off, and the inners are bent a little. But they are a mess. Any one near me have a inner tie rod tool I can rent or borrow (Enfield CT), or does any one know any tricks? I'd buy one but we only have two cars. I have to get a ride to work everyday. I'm sear...

Re: Shifter Alignment

I did Mine it's realty not that bad compered to other stuff on our1991 Jetta. Can you see any indication where the alignment tool should line up? The linkage must be worn out enough to hit that piece of plastic. I did some of the replacement pieces from underneath, Jack the car up high and of course...

Frozen tie rods

Anybody experience frozen tie rod ends? My 91 Jetta's tie rod ends are frozen solid. About three four years ago I replaced both inner rods (another heck of a job to do. You need special tools). I never seen anything like this, I brought it to a local fabrication shop who we use at work, and I know t...

Re: Starter switch?

It was the interlock system. You guys were right. What I did is instead of soldering the wires together, I followed the wires to the connector near the fuse box. Then cut the wires behind the connector on the fuse box side. There is a brown wire and a brown wire with a yellow stripe. The brown one h...

Re: Starter switch?

The starter jumps fine last night and this morning. Today I'll jump the interlock for the seat belt. Tom This morning it wouldn't turn over with the key. While holding the key in the start position I did a pretty good hard wiggle with the safety belt. I could here a click every once in a while. This...
