Re: Starter switch?

Did a search on the interlock. Seat belt, good point. When this first started to happen I squirted a little WD40 in there. I'll jump it out to see if that helps. What bugs me is that once it starts it's good until it's parked for a while. Then when you try to start it you need to hold the key in the...

Wanted MKII Alt braket without A/C

I'm Dieing to get rid of my A/C compressor. My Alt bracket broke and I had to weld it back together to get going. Anyone have a ALT bracket for a 1991 Jetta ME 1.6 without AC?

Thanks Tom

Re: Starter switch?

Is the interlock system the wiring harness on the column? Jumping the starter by putting the key in the on position and jumping from the hot side of the battery to the starter solenoid (in neutral of course)?

Thanks Tom

Starter switch?

When I start my 91 Jetta I have to hold the key in the start position for sometimes up to 5 or more seconds before the starter kicks in. I switched the battery out for a new one (Costco pro rated) and I still got this problem. Although It starts ok after it's warmed up. Anyone else have this problem...

Re: door handle broke

I've had lots a trouble with door handles like every one else. I tried a pull style handle. Direct fit bolt into all MkII's. Also know as the Chinese MkII door handles because they originated from the Chinese market cars. Re-use factory tumblers and keys plus check alignment and operation while inst...

Re: Castrol LL03

Pick up the oil I ordered yesterday. It was a real mild day here. This morning was pretty nice too, so this really doesn't give me a good idea yet what the start up pressure is going to be at cold temps. NOAA records show the low last night was 37 (wich is nothing and pleasant) my out side temps was...

Re: 1980 Caddy electrical - what else?

May be a ignition switch? Put a little squirt of WD40 in it? Does the safety belt have to be in for it to start on this Caddy or is that other later models? That happened to me one time. I knocked my brains out on that one once.

Re: My stepvan gone lite-up lass night

Good to hear you weren't in it. We had one of our big trucks (Freightliner) at work had have that happen. With our driver in it. He was ok, didn't get out of the truck. Although I didn't know how many volts were in that line, but the truck was ok and this is a newer truck (diesel of course) and is l...

Re: Blinking Glow Plug light.

I took the water separator out. But it was a very slushy day and a long ride home. I'll check the connections.
No water around the dash that I seen or know off

Thanks for the reply's Tyler and vwtyp133

Blinking Glow Plug light.

Last Wed we had a wet snow storm here. On my way home from work the glow plug light started to blink about half of the 40 mile trip. I was hoping that it would reset it self after I shut it off, but it didn't. As soon as I put the key in the ignition it would start to blink, even trying it the next ...

Re: Castrol LL03

Pretty good link 82vdub. Both links do explain a lot. Thanks. Well I just ordered Amsoil 10w 30 synthetic API rated CJ-4 Part number OECQT-EA. I'll have it at the end of the week, I'll let you know what the start up psi is and outdoor temps at start up. Temps are all over the place hear lately. Last...

Re: Castrol LL03

I don't know, that's why I was asking if anybody is using it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm thinking that it would be lower. I've been wrong plenty times before.

Re: Castrol LL03

I Like the Shell Rotella stuff also. Shell Rotella T5 is a 10W 30 blend of synthetic that is API rated CJ-4 and conventional motor oil. I'd use it but I want a full synthetic.

Re: Castrol LL03

Ya, T6 is what I been using. I think it's a good oil. Just wanted to try a 10w 30 full synthetic. It maybe also will still start up at a high PSI. I almost tried Royal Purple. They told me that there HPS 10W 30. But what scared me off was that no where on the bottle did it say meets CJ-4 specs (or a...

Re: Castrol LL03

I just got of the phone with Castrol 1 (800) 462-0835. They were pretty helpful. Castrol LL03 is a European rated oil ACEA, so the answer was no, because VW in 1991 States a API rated C rated motor oil (CI, CH, CJ-4 ect.). I'm still interested to see if anyone here is using a 5W 30 CJ-4 rated oil in...
