Castrol LL03
VW is using Castrol LL03 5w 30 (VW 50507). They tell me they use it in all Passat and Jetta TDI motors. I'm looking for a 10w 30 synthetic to run in my 1991 Jetta ME. I'm using Rotella 5w 40 synthetic and when it gets cold the oil pressure gauge tops out at 100 PSI. Anybody here using a 5w 30 that's...

Re: How mutch does your car smoke?
Since the sun is in a much different spot during my trip to work and my way home I'm able to see more smoke than I thought. Last night I did adjust the so called smoke screw. I did a 1/4 turn counter clockwise (facing the pump) it seem to help. I didn't feel any loss of acceleration (not like the th...

Re: Knocking on rebuilt engine
Our motor has just been rebuilt, and it's pretty loud. My millage is about 47, 48mpg. Do you have a oil pressure gauge in it? Usually with a bad rod the oil pressure is low. Ours is about 20 psi while idling running 5-40 synthetic. 85/90 psi when it first stars.

Re: Highest MPG
Something I thought of. If you put larger tires on, your speedo will be off. I don't think by very much. I used a larger size tire for a very short period of time (tried buying used tires). My speedo was off by a little when I looked at my GPS. If you figure out the difference between the two you wo...

Re: Highest MPG
Mixed driving and a couple of rushing to work days gets me a 45 with one tank and 47 the week before. Tire size is stock (sticker in the door) and normal tire inflation.

Maybe these guys might be able to give you a lead. I lost more than just a few things in our Jetta.

Re: What kind of oil do you recommend for a cold climate?
I'm using Rotella T6 full synthetic 5-40. You need to make sure the API rating is for diesel. Here is a cut and paste I found, and the API site. "Diesel Motor Oils For diesel engines, API has a separate rating system. The current category is "CI-4" (introduced in 2002 for newer diesel...

Re: How mutch does your car smoke?
Which way do you turn it? I thinking in to reduce fuel, but better to ask. I'm getting 47 mpg when I figured it out. But I let it idle in the morning for a while and at work before leaving.

Re: 36 mm Oil Pump Needs Longer Bolts
I've bought hardened Metric bolts and nuts at Tractor Supply chain stores. I've bought smaller sizes at Agway Hardware stores (hardened metric). Never found anything that I could use at a big box store. If you have a Tractor Supply chain store near you take the pump inside and check out a couple har...

Re: How mutch does your car smoke?
After my 1st couple of post I think I'm getting more soot when I throttle up than I thought. When the sun is in the right place, you can see it better. It's running really good though, but I thought I'd ask. Where is the max fuel screw? Can you adjust it without it leaking after?

Re: leaky injector
I have heard but never seen problems with the way you take the injector out or put it in. On the way out push the ratchet or bar toward the valve cover. On installation tighten the injector with the ratchet toward the valve cover. There are stories of breaking the casting of the head at the bottom o...

Re: How mutch does your car smoke?
I had the injectors done a little bit before the pump. I don't remember seeing any soot before this motor was rebuilt. It happens when it's warmed up and just before I shift. I'm not going to worry about it since It runs good an some of you hear believe the soot is normal.
