Re: How mutch does your car smoke?
Thank for the reassurance my pump is doing what it's suppose to. That is a good description "a little soot". It's when I look in the mirror. That's what mine is exactly doing. I don't think I'm touching anything because it's running pretty good right now. I'll just stick to a little Stanad...

How mutch does your car smoke?
I have 1991 Jetta ME with 9000 miles on both the engine and the IP. It bugs me that it smokes when I start off and when I step on it. When I'm cruising on the highway or the local streets there isn't any. The certified Bosch re builder said you can't do any thing about it. If I add some Stanadyne to...

Re: 81 Diesel Dasher- Smoking and rough start
Check them out by hooking them direct to the battery. That way you eliminate the circuit in-between the fuse box and the glow-plug. I learned that here, and that help me a lot to chase down the problem.
Hope you find whats wrong,

Some times there are no easy fixes and some times there are. You should be able to find new parts. Napa has surprised me a few times, you don't know unless you ask. If not,try to find the parts online. I don't think there's a adjustment for the fuel stop solenoid.

Re: I am about ready to give up on Jetta timing belt
I broke the number two line after driving it for about 500 miles. All because of not putting that bolt in under the injection lines. Your right vwtyp133, I don't like loosening the lines but you have to to get the IP to move better.
Good luck

Re: I am about ready to give up on Jetta timing belt
There is a conical bolt (hope I spelt that right) on the IP underneath the injector lines. Don't forget to loosen it up. I forgot about it on a install one time and broke number two injector line. Totally my fault.

Re: Brake advice
I think it may be a master since you say that the fluid is good when you check it. Try chaining it and give it a good bleeding.

Is it dual over head cam? Or is it like a 1.6 ME block?

If there is a sticker on the inside of the door it may say the size of the tire that it came with (If you can read it).

1/4 Inch swivel socket and a 1 foot 1/4 inch extension does wonders for me.

If the white greyish smoke goes away after you start it, it's the glow plugs. It happened to me a while ago.

Re: List Your Homemade VW Specialty Tools Here!!!!!!!!
This is a vacuum pump I used to preprime oil in a new rebuilt 1.6 ME motor before the initial start of the motor. It's been dismantled and cut with a Saws all. The 2nd to the last picture is of the outside housing cut in half to let the drill accessible to the shaft. The last picture is the assemble...

Re: Lossing prime
My fault. I didn't check the voltage before testing or the voltage drop while testing. But the car was sitting since Friday. This morning I got 15 seconds before I hear the glow plug relay click off. Was 60 F at 6:00am this morning. The car started right away. 1 or 1 1/2 seconds.
