Filling Transmission
I have a manual 5 speed 1986 Diesel that I was going to drain and fill the transmission with a higher quality gear oil. I know how to drain the old fluid but how do I refill the transmission? In the past I would attempt to add fluid by pumping new oil in through the drain plug and that turns into a ...

Alternator Belt
Just stock AC but the pulley on the newer alternator is larger and the stock alternator belt is thinner with much more of a dramatic V to it. Hope this will solve my breakage.

Alternator belt
Belt broke again after only 500 miles so I dismantled the modification and changed out my alternator with one with a different pully. Used the original bolts to mount and a stock smaller belt. Belt is extemly tight and hoping I do not cause any damage running a tight belt. So far so good but only dr...

Rain leak
My 1986 VW Golf diesel has water running down behind the instrument panel on to my clutch pedal after a hard rain. I cannot seem to find where it is originating from. The water pours over my foot. When I pop the hood there does not seem to be any accumulation of water anywhere.

Front Brake Calibers
I rebuilt my front brake calibars with new rubber lines, should I try to load it up with brake fluid before I mount them or just try to flush with the brake pedle. I am afraid of all the air in the new calibars and lines.

Re: Another Alternator Belt Tensioner Fix? UPDATE 6.6k mi O
I also lost my alterantor belt after doing the modification at 1500 mile but I started running the stock air conditioning too. I think that may have caused the dismise of my belt. Replaced the belt with one slightly smaller and do not use my air conditioning. Is presently holding strong.

Re: 1985 golf diesel front conversion to round headlights
I have a 1986 Golf diesel that I changed the square lights to two roumd ones. Found a two round headlight radiator support at pullapart and ordered two round healights off of E-bay. No problem and I like the looks much better. You can find a new grill for about $40 to finish it off.

Re: Gas, Diesel Tank
Filled the tank up to see if it would leak. No more leaking but my fuel gauge not longer reads full only 3/4's. Is that my fuel sender freaking out since it no longer leaks past the top or is it my guage. It use to register full after a complete fill up.

Re: Gas, Diesel Tank
Opened the hatch where the fuel sender is and discovered that the main threaded plastic top piece was not even hand tighten. The gasket around the fuel sender looked OK, even though it was flopping around and the whole well was encrusted with gunky diesel sludge and dirt. Back in 1987 I mistakenly f...

Gas, Diesel Tank
My plastic gas tank has a small leak mainly after fill ups. I was considering replacing my gas tank. Has anyone changed out their tanks and any tricks you can provide me with? Oh, by the way it is 1986 Golf Diesel.
