Except for the aneroid (sp?) pin and the low-boost-fuel-limiter thing, is the 1.9 pump the same as the 1.6? Does it put out more fuel and might i need the extra on a 1.6?

I think the 1.9 injectors are two stage. Is that for performance or economy?

I did the procedure today. I had to convince the diesel shop I knew what I was doing in order that they would sell me the kit, but then got them to throw in a second seal for the high pressure head. I'll use the kit on a full pump rebuild later. The first time my shim under the bolt wasn't long enou...

Thanks. I read all nine pages and I'm glad I did. I'll post my experience on that other thread after I get the part and get it on.

1.6 or 1.9 pump/injectors?

Last year I installed a 1.6 TD in place of the original 1.9 WBX. It's been running very well since then. My only complaint other than the lack of pulling power is the exponential increase in engine noise when I go over 100km/h in 4th. I don't have a tach. I'm currently running at stock boost/fueling...

Well the 1/4" drive 10mm socket I bought at Crappy Tire today although stamped 10mm was in fact not. It was too small. I swear, that is the last time I go to that bloody store. So I went to the Home Despot, open till midnight, to get a real one. The oilpan bolts came out no problem and that cov...

I remember reading either on one of these forums or maybe in a service manual that the idle speed can be increased to eliminate excessive vibration.

Easy fix.

The crankcase breather is at the front of the block, next to the oil filter flange. I think it's the blocked off port on the 1.6. It connects vertically with a moulded plastic pipe to the hockey puck on the cam cover. It's got a nice elbow that gapes open just underneath the no.3 glowplug when you r...

removing oilpan

I was changing out some burnt out autolite (grr, never again,) glowplugs for Bosch ones when I inadvertently dropped one into the crankcase breather hole, never to be seen again. While trying to pull the oilpan I found that the two bolts at the flywheel end seem totally enclosed by the ?trans...

Is there a screen on both in and out bolts? Maybe one or both are clogged.

I'll check next time I'm in there.

The glow plug tips are swollen. Power supply you say? Hmmm. When I bought the car "with a broken timing belt" the no-start problem turned out to be burnt out plugs. I swapped the good ones from the spare engine that came with the car but a few months later no start again. I bought four new...

When you prime the pump through the out banjo bolt, how easily does the fuel pull through? On my 1.6 the primer bulb can't pull enough or maybe there's an obstruction.

Does the pump flow at certain positions and seal at other points in it's rotation?

Nailing Injectors?

As I accelerate I reach a threshold in each gear where I get a loud mechanical rattling sound that may be nailing injectors. It happens at 90km/h in 4th and 110km/h in 5th.

Are those about the same RPM?

Could nailing contribute to rapidly failing glowplugs?

So here's the update: I disconnected all the fuel lines. With the primer bulb I pulled fuel from the tank and back through the return. Easy. Then I pulled it through the filter , hoping it was blocked. Easy. Then I pulled it from the tank straight through the IP. Really hard. The bulb would stay def...
