Re: Thermostat
Thats a good question, I couldn't find a decent place to put the probe for my gauge either.

Re: What a day...
And they got me the wrong pump again. Getting closer.. They got me the 40mm shaft pump, with 2 7/8" depth. I need the 2 5/8" depth. I had to explain to the kid at the parts store what happens when the pulley is out of a alignment by 1/4".. Maybe I'll have better luck with the pump the...

Re: What a day...
I just put the thermostat housing back together, I used new bolts that weren't all rusty, and I used anti-seize on the threads. I expect that will help prevent a repeat of this problem down the road. I also got all the new hoses installed. Found something interesting when I changed the oil. It had a...

What a day...
So I went to do my timing belt, idler pulley, water pump, thermostat and coolant hoses today. Got the hoses from Jack. Bought the timing belt locally, had to order it, but only took a day for them to get it. Ordered the tensioner at the same time. Got the right part number, but the part inside the b...

Re: Thermostat
While the dash gauge isn't accurate, it does give a good indicator that the temperature is currently inconsistant. Sounds good, I'll go for that thermostat.

Thermostat
I'm kind of new to diesels.. I see I have a huge selection of thermostat temperatures for this car.. Which one should I get? I think the car came with is too low, because it cruises down the freeway just below 1/4 of the way.. When I'm in stop and go it'll get up to 1/2 way.. I'd imagine I want a th...

Re: IP Pump Timing/Fuel Issue?
I've heard of that kind of problem when people try to swap in bigger injectors. You sure someone didn't just swap out the injectors for something a couple sizes larger? I'm still learning the fine details of how a diesel works, but is it possible that bigger injectors are simply flooding the motor a...

Re: Intermittent fuel starvation issues
Good to know, I'll check out his hose selection. Unlike the fuel line, I can probably wait a bit for the coolant hoses to get delivered.

Re: Intermittent fuel starvation issues
Must just be an unfriendly dealership. I'll shop elsewhere next time. Seemed odd that they'd discontinue such an odd part on a vehicle that so many people are still driving. I'd like to replace all of the coolant hoses under the hood, and it looks like several of them are unique in the same way. I'l...

Re: Intermittent fuel starvation issues
http://www.neonsquirt.com/wabbit.jpg Got the new tank and installed it today. Put a new filter under the hood, blew out the fuel lines with air while I had it apart. Welded the exhuast back together (still has the stock muffler). Replaced the glue in vent windows with bolt in ones from a cabriolet....

Re: 3.5yr rebuild project done, but gutless... help?
Yeah, the fuel in my tank last weekend was teal blue, but I didn't put it there, so I don't know the story on it. Sounds like your Chevron fuel was the same. I think as long as it's not bright red, you're golden.

Re: Intermittent fuel starvation issues
I found that the flexible line from the tank to the hardline was kinked, that was some of my problem. After I fixed that, I noticed damp spots on the bottom of the tank, only to find the previous owner apparently drilled a small hole in the bottom of the tank, for some reason, and had epoxied the ho...

Simple timing belt change
('81 Diesel Rabbit) Can I simply remove my old timing belt, and install a new one? I've read some guides that seem exceptionally convoluted, resetting the cam and injection pump timing. My engine runs fine, I simply want a known good fresh belt and tensioner installed. Can I just pop off the old bel...
