Does anyone have (or know of a source) for the downpipe flange that attaches to the exhaust manifold of a 1.6 NON-turbo engine?
A good used one would work if not rusted.
Is it available in Stainless steel?
Thanks

Re: Pump not pumping?
timing too far advanced that its bucking the starter?
does the engine crank faster or slower with the wire off the fuel solenoid of the injection pump?

Re: WTB: MK2 speedo CE1 (1985-1989?)
thanks for the reply.
the electrical connection I was referring to was on the back of a gasser cluster.
my only diesel cluster is still in the car.

Re: WTB: MK2 speedo CE1 (1985-1989?)
A couple questions:
1.) Is the speedometer part of the cluster interchangeable between CE1 and the later (CE2?) instrument clusters?
2.) What is the electronic connection to the back of the speedometer - a way for the ECM to record mileage for the emissions service interval?
Thanks.

Re: door handle broke
Are all of the replacement handles comparable?
If not, which is the best?
Is there an upgraded or improved handle that is better than the OE pot metal mechanism that is so fragile?
Thanks

Re: setting injector pump timing by ear
THANK YOU for that link! It seems that thread will cover what I have experienced myself - I will read it in detail as soon as I have a little free time. The timing marks were certainly outside the window, as the visible part of the flywheel appeared to "jump" to a different part of the fly...

Re: setting injector pump timing by ear
The piezo can be faulty. However, you could try cleaning the fuel line. Rotate it perhaps. You could try a position further back away from the injector. It could be reflections. Try a different line... "Yes" in answer to your question  I cleaned the line with sandpaper, because i...

Re: setting injector pump timing by ear
I see the timing advance is working when using my timing light with the timing adapter. It changes the timing at the slightest increase in engine speed, but above a certain RPM the TDC mark 'disappears'. I suspect the piezoelectric unit is picking up some other vibration and falsely triggering the l...

Re: setting injector pump timing by ear
UPDATE: I lowered the pump pressure by removing the cartridge and tapping in the other direction from the bottom side. Then re-installed the cartridge and measured the pressure. A bit low so I very carefully raised it, getting 35psi at 900rpm and 95psi at 3000rpm (crankshaft speed). Marbles sound we...

Re: setting injector pump timing by ear
Yes it is harder to pull than push back in, it will go in on its own if not held pulled out. I measured my pump pressure: 13psi @ 900 engine RPM 25psi @ 1500 35psi @ 2000 72 psi @ 4000 I increased it by tapping down that plug, but have the pressure now a bit too high. Think I have the marbles sound ...

Re: Injector pump problem
Once the injection pump is full of fuel, there should only be a small amount of air bubbles in the return line to the tank (mostly fuel being returned). Too much air bubbles in the return line indicates a suction leak on the fuel system, which may cause an engine to quit and not restart. Air in the ...

Re: setting injector pump timing by ear
Thanks for the reply Q-man. I did not have time to measure the pump pressure yet, but I am willing to bet it is low. I know for certain that the cold start handle pulls out the same whether the engine is running or not.

Re: 86 Jetta speedometer issues
Is the speedo the same between gas and diesel? If so, that may explain those electrical bits - perhaps the mileage counter for the OX service indicator, etc... see I was reading my Bentley manual

Re: setting injector pump timing by ear
Thanks again TylerDurden! I set mine to 0.95mm and then put a light on it. The dial was at 10 degrees when the marks lined up. It also proved my suspicion - the timing advance is not operating when I revved the engine. That is another job for when I get some time, besides a compression check and fly...

Re: 86 Jetta speedometer issues
Thanks for the reply TylerDurden. I thought they were mechanical, using a magnetic coupling to move the needle. But I think there is a bunch of electrical stuff up in there as well. Next chance I get I'll oil it up and see if it improves its operation.
