Re: Newbie here, IP problem

 Good stuff :!: Hagar just stuck his thumbs up in approval  I think it's awesome you did a cheap semi-refresh on a engine with just rings. It's not like you were telling people to do it, its just something YOU decided to try. Something to be learned there. If someone recommends against ...

Re: How to determine correct head gasket thickness

H'mm using that method would struggle to work. Gently placing head on block might give you something, but as soon as you screwed down even finger tight would move pistons, even if in gear, foot on brake etc. Take your old gasket and measure it's thickness around the piston , assuming that the last ...

Re: broken glow plugs

When i replaced my glow plugs, they were all snapped at the ends...where did they go? The oil pan i hope? I feel is notice if they got chewed up in my motor at some point Likely as not melted. Timing out perhaps or merely extreme driving, or relay failing to turn them off quick enough, or at all... ...

Re: Newbie here, IP problem

banned? WTF is Omnimod? I know they like to call this the "hillbilly forum" because, well I'm not sure exactly why, but they seem afraid to talk about things like timing by ear or any IP bushing diy- perhaps for good reason.... nevertheless, big loss for them. They do have a new owner now...

Re: setting injector pump timing by ear

Turbo'd engines tend to clatter less. Running up a local hill at different timing settings is a good way to optimize.

Re: Newbie here, IP problem

I took some time this morning to loosen the head, had the top off, was able to see that the shim is still in place and it appears that everything else still is as well. So now what? Put it back together and try again, or is it time for a new pump? With top off, turn engine over and see that the pis...

Re: Newbie here, IP problem

Hi, you could replace the shim with the pump still in the car but it's not easy. What you could do first, is to open the top up. I'd first use a 50cc syringe on the return line to push some of the fuel back out of the supply line to lower the fuel to below the split. dismantle the throttle linkage ...

Re: Newbie here, IP problem

It's actually nice outside today so I guess I'll pull the pump off and maybe start tearing it apart. If it's dropped out then it's resting harmlessly on the bottom of the pump. If it has not fallen out, but dislodged, then it will have effectively grown in thickness, which I suspect will mean that ...

Re: Newbie here, IP problem

there should still be fuel coming out of the lines unless something inside the pump came apart. Did you remove the plunger and spring from the fuel solenoid to verify this this isn't the issue. It would seem that he did... 3rd line from the bottom of his first post  Mr nmrwr85; whilst the ...

Re: Newbie here, IP problem

I'm new to this forum, been on vwvortex for years. I'm a diesel mechanic for international but haven't touched anything older than late 90's so no mechanical stuff. I have an injection pump issue on my 82 rabbit. The rear seal was leaking so I followed instructions for doing it on the car. I pulled...

A little late perhaps, but that blower is the same as the ones in the Quantum a/c or not. Casing wise at least

Re: oil leak between head and block

As well as hydro/non, there seems to be a range of vent/oil drain sizes.in heads and gaskets if not blocks also.
If a slightly smaller one [gasket] was substituted, it may have the effect you have experienced, especially, I should imagine, on a 'well used' engine.

Re: oil leak between head and block

The only test you can do is to put your old gasket back on!
