I don't think they are available new but you may be able to find a used one. Some guys install a temporary electric fuel pump between the IP and filter to prime the IP but if the filter is full of fuel and the IP is full of fuel it really should pump to the injectors unless something else is not as ...

Went through a similar issue after rebuilding my IP. Turned out I had gotten the throttle arm off by about 90 degrees on the throttle shaft when I re-installed it. To check for this.... First remove the two banjo fuel fittings and fill the IP with clean diesel or ATF, replace the fittings and try cr...

The blue wire is for the idiot light and the 2 larger spade terminals adjacent to it are positive out. There is another terminal on the back somewhere for the noise suppression condenser.

Sounds like you have the "W" terminal type plug.

After being in place for a long time they can be pretty stuck. Had to wiggle mine around a bit to remove it but it eventually popped right off.

Either way it sounds like you could drive safely for several hundred miles if you limited un-needed electrical power consumption, and of course had a good battery.

Ummmm... "Motorcraft" (Ford) rebuilt Bosch alternator? Much as I have gotten generally good service from my Fords, I'd suggest you try to pay your parts store the extra (above the Motorcraft unit's price) to get a Bosch-rebuilt alternator. It took me 6 "Lifetime Guarantee" mass ...

That's funny I was wondering the same thing. Guess great minds think alike. Just had my alt go out on a camping trip reeeeealy in the middle of nowhere and was wondering this as I stared at that red led burning. My first thought was rigging s string of flashlight batteries to hold the fuel cut...

I wanted a mechanical screw in replacement for the electrical fuel cut solenoid. Never thought of removing the plunger in a pinch, good to know.

With a little machine work I suppose I could make a mechanical version. Just not sure if it would be worth the effort.

Aftermarket Mechanical Fuel Cut Off

Just had my alternator go out on me in the middle of nowhere on a camping trip with my daughter. Driving in daylight the Caddy uses almost juice so it was no big deal but I did make a point to stop on hills so I could roll start as needed just to be on the safe side. Got home (120 miles) with plenty...

Alt Light Issue

I know this has been posted somewhere here already but can't find it.

Charging system seems to be working fine but the alt light never goes out. It has always stayed on for a bit after start up but suddenly it stays that way at all RPM.

Ideas?

Upholstery on these old cars is actually fairly simple. I picked up an old Singer machine at a yard sale about 15 years ago and have used it to do headliners and seats for dozens of Bugs since. You can also do them by hand with a sail makers needle but it will take a lot of time. Remove the seats fr...

In a pinch you could remove the pan and weld in a nut with the proper threads.
Been there, done that.
