You know what really grinds my gears,
Older new car smell, Whenever I get in my 81' mk1 first thing I notice is that it just feels cool because there's no weird smells of cheap adhesives and phthalates of slowly dying plastic. There was never much to it and everything else is pretty much off-gassed, just the smell of that seat material ...

Re: VNT turbo actuator changeout
well after removing the actuator, the turbo vanes weren't sticking at all - so I decided to keep it simple and not take more apart than needed. finally got the new actuator Vacuum still wasn't making it to the new actuator - turned out the vacuum check valve was stopped up with crud? cleaned it out ...

Re: VNT turbo actuator changeout
I'll be pulling the whole manifold, there is an exhaust leak going on too. I have to keep the a/c blower on recirculate or smells of exhaust inside a bit.

VNT turbo actuator changeout
How many gaskets do I need to get to change the turbo actuator in an ALH? (doesn't hold vacuum)
Just the manifold and downpipe, or is there a few more that I should get?
I may need to clean up the turbo inside as well after I take the assembly off, never messed with a turbo before.

Re: manual vs auto adjusting clutch cables
I don't think any mk1/2's were made specifically for self-adjusting cables. Adjusting the manual cable is pretty easy if you just look at the free play at the transmission lever.
Since they're pretty cheap I keep a spare cable stashed in car, just in case it snapps out on the road.

Re: Updated !!New Injector pump = no power, lots of smoke and knocking
I had mine leak from the end plug (large fitting in center of delivery valves), I thought the delivery valves were leaking, very hard to tell where it was coming from. This is not the 12mm bolt for checking the timing, it's what that bolt screws into. I believe it takes a 1" box end wrench to t...

No seals should not be leaking after a pump rebuild.
I see on the web there are techniques of using baby powder to help find leaks

Re: Updated !!New Injector pump = no power, lots of smoke and knocking
If that f#cking "rebuilt" pump is really leaking - not your lines or hoses, send it back for a refund!!! Adjusting an injection pump, while running or not, will not make the pump itself start leaking. The 17mm injector line nuts do have to be loosened to take any stress off the hard lines ...
