What can bubbles in the return fuel line indicate? I saw this recently when doing a can of Diesel Purge.

FYI, on the web advocacy for the use of air brake line for this application, particularly in biodiesel or WVO circles, is something I've run across. It's really cheap stuff to get if you have a big rig oriented parts store around, so I tried it out on two rigs. It immediately failed in the end cap p...

Man, I'd sure like to see the insides of the original injection pump to see if it is worn from the dual fuel setup or something. Any recent overheats? Give us a better idea of the history of the vehicle. It's strange that an pump just stops working. Any fuel leaks? Did you just do a timing belt chan...

If your car had vacuum-controlled cruise control, a missing bracket and component could be your problem. The cruise control setup on quantum TD's has a bracket mounted to the injection pump which then supports a rubber-encased spring that hooks into the vacuum system. That bracket was likely not rem...

If you've already got a regulated air source...

For those who've already got an air compressor with a regulator on it, I see no reason why you couldn't just set the regulator to 15psi, and then plumb up a fitting to an old master cylinder cap. Of course, you'd want to make sure you had an air dryer! Air compressors can cause moisture in the atmos...

Here's a bunch of how-to's people have already made; I can't see doing any better myself. http://faculty.ccp.edu/faculty/dreed/campingart/jettatech/bleeder/index.htm http://www.bmw-m.net/TechProc/bleeder.htm http://www.e38.org/brake_bleeding.htm http://www.bayarea02.com/techtips/brake_bleeder.html

more cooling system ideas.

Fatmobile's candy thermometer in the expansion tank is great! You can drill a spare cap and seal a thermometer into it so you can drive as a sealed pressurized system, and get a real reading. For testing the fan/s and fan switch/es, make a little two pronged jumper wire. Turbo Diesels and the vans h...

J.R. I've had such a pain manually bleeding the rear brakes (likely because they fully drained when changing the proportioning valve; for lesser crap regular two-person bleeding can be tolerated). I'm going to build the pressurized DIY thing I've seen before. I'll post detailed how-to later, but it ...

Thanks, bscutt! I do have a Mighty Vac; which I acquired precisely for brake bleeding. It completely failed me and did no good whatsoever on it's first application (which was actually this car when I'd bought it after it'd been sitting for a year in a memphis driveway). I think if the lines have any...

return fuel appearing "carbonated"?

Speaking of clear fuel hose, when running some Diesel Purge through a 1.6 passenger van one time, I saw what appeared to be nearly carbonated return fuel! It looked like the returning Diesel Purge from the pump back to the can was 7-up! Didn't seem to mean anything. Anybody else seen something like ...

spring-style brake proportioning valve; anything special?

This is my first install; bit the bullet and decided rather than fashioning a pair of manual racing-style adjusters, it's worth the $168 to put in the proper part. The '84 Quantum TD sedan periodically had funny brakes for a bit; then I noticed the drip before it became a problem. Does the unit requ...

If you've not considered it, run the oil pump by removing the vacuum pump and fitting a 14mm 6 sided long socket onto the internal protruding shaft. Run it fast with a good 1/2hp electric drill; you should be able to feel/hear when you get the oil pressure up. Then reassemble and try starting. For I...
