Re: Oil Cooler Hoses
Now that I have contacted Jack, I see that most of the turbo hoses are not available, especially the lower oil cooler hose(068 121 058). That probably explains why this hose was made up out of parts. Fortunately, the upper hose (068 121 053 P) is available. So, what do y'all use for this lower hose ...

Re: Oil Cooler Hoses
OK, thanks for the confirmation. I'll call Jack in the AM. There seems to be a homemade heat-shield behind the oil filter/oil cooler assembly. Is this necessary or at all useful? And is the factory oil drain hose at all prone to failure? I understand it deals with very hot oil. What else should I co...

Oil Cooler Hoses
I located a turbo motor to install in my '82 Rabbit. It came out of a '93 Jetta, but decoding the VIN shows that this car came with a gas motor. The motor has a mechanical head(casting 0681033673N), vane type vacuum pump, and date code seems to indicate the head is a 1985. I can't seem to find much ...

Re: IP Sprocket Off One Tooth?
I will look into the power screw, though I haven't touched it. Considering this pump is a combination of parts of different pumps, I suppose the power screw may need adjusting. I did set TDC exactly by flywheel mark, cam locked, IP lock-pin inserted, cam sprocket loosened (with sprocket holding tool...

Re: IP Sprocket Off One Tooth?
Did you put a wrench on the crank bolt and turn the engine by a wrench at least two revolutions before using the key after messing with the timing belt? This is an easy way to find out if you have piston to valve issues before causing damage. Yes, I turned by hand first. There was no noticeable con...

IP Sprocket Off One Tooth?
I had a sudden IP failure on my 82 NA Rabbit, so I had the pleasure (NOT!) of creating a single rebuilt franken-pump out of three pumps with different defects. I did discover that there were indeed different internals in different models -- for example different length advance pistons to go with dif...

@VWCaddy:
I did a double take on that second picture (momentary "WTF?")... Is that your optical pickup for the tach, reading off the injection pump pulley?

Re: I keep braking #2 injector line
The bracket to the block was tight, but I found that the bolt below the injector lines is about a size smaller than the hole. I'm going to buy another bolt tonight. But now I have another problem. Tom IIRC, that bolt under the high pressure section takes a special conical nut that keeps things cent...

Re: Valve cover leaking 1.9L NA engine
I can't comment on the 1.9 per se, but do you have a thin sheet-metal valve cover, or a thick cast aluminum cover? If sheet metal, is it fairly flat, or is it kind of bowed downward around the stud holes? If bowed, you may need to hammer it flat. Do you have the 5-hole stiffener on top of the valve ...

Looks like you're coming along nicely.
I'll have to admit when I first saw the title of the post and I checked the date (April 1st), I thought it smelled a little fishy . But it looks like a pretty ambitious project. Good job.

Re: Rabbit ECO-Diesel Conversion
I was hoping to avoid having to make exhaust pieces, but if I had to, I could. And I know some very capable people who would help. I just looked at an old Bosal exhaust catalog and see that though similar looking, all the turbo diesel exhaust pieces are different from NA. What's the difference -- la...

It runs the vacuum powered doors on the heater/AC system. At least is does on my '82 Rabbit with AC.

Re: Rabbit ECO-Diesel Conversion
The solution to that problem (clearing shift linkage, and hard-to-find MK1 downpipes), is the TT downpipe. The make a custom downpipe with a cutout linkage to clear it. Thanks for the tip. I just took a look at their (Techtonics Tuning) site and saw their downpipes. Very nicely made in stainless, b...

Re: Rabbit ECO-Diesel Conversion
Thanks for your inputs. I guess my main concern was that the Mk2/Mk3 manifolds were so radically different dimensionally, that I would need to either mount the engine differently or move firewall sheet metal to clear or that it interfered with steering/shifting. I figured the "toilet-bowl"...

Re: Rabbit ECO-Diesel Conversion
Bump.
Anyone?
There probably were too many questions... so, how well do MK2 turbo manifolds work for a Rabbit application, and is there a difference between Golf and Jetta manifolds?
