I did it on my other pump but within a couple days of operation I saw the pump start dripping from the cold start cable. I would have said just go ahead and do it like I did, but what if it springs a leak elsewhere? If I were you I would just take off the pump and do an external seal job with the pa...

I did the torque routine over a long period of cranks, star pattern, and did not add extra loctite? I got the bolts from germanautoparts.com and they come coated with blue stuff. You can see the stuff in the closeup crank picture. Was I supposed to add extra? If so what type? I know that getting the...

did you do your clutch yet? long story short i thought i was good after a hard week of work in the rain alone. i was timing the injection pump by ear today, probably about an hour total run time on the car on the driveway since i built it all back up. heard some rumbling on the tranny side then bam!...

I have a 1985 turbo diesel jetta, no clue if we share the same system? I just had an issue with charging a couple weeks ago and found I could take those connectors off either by hand or with wrench to get off the nuts. Nothing special on mine. I had a wierd experience with my setup in that a connect...

I did the high pressure end side of my pump a couple months back when I first got my new to me 85 jetta. Bam, fuel started coming out of the cold start lever. So I yanked it again and did the superficial seal thing as well as the main shaft seal. My old main shaft seal was rock hard and fused in pla...

No real help here, and am not sure if your system shares anything with my 85 jetta? But I had no ebrake when I brought this car home, replaced all the guts in the back and cleaned it all up and adjusted the cables slightly at the lever and found that I had awesome feel and holding. 2-3 clicks was ha...

I use a deep socket for a lock pin (I have a real one somewhere in the garage...). Just find a socket or something with the right diameter that will fit into the appropriate locking hole on the pump pulley - there's a matching hole in the pump mounting bracket. If I recall it's a little smaller tha...

i didn't catch if you take the tranny out from above or below? and damn this sucks, i am in the same boat as you soon. i think tranny fluid coated my clutch when i topped the fluid off, its leaking on the ground with the car pointed nose down :( i imagine its a good idea to replace some motor/tranny...

I just finished up a complete suspension rebuild on my old 85 jetta that had all original parts. I yanked my axle flanges and had to install a speedi sleeve on each of them due to grooves. I installed the new seal kits and still am not seeing fluid collecting in those areas like when I got the car. ...

Would anybody happen to have an online resource to get part #'s myself or ask a shop that sells the parts online so they can pull up a picture and get me the right parts?

I don't see a vw dealer on their map around my way.

I might as well get the stud, washer and bolt

so the body of the tensioner just sits right up against the engine?

and does that spring washer typically come with a new tensioner? i didn't have one in my box.

damn how do i get one of those washers and are they supposed to be replaced every time you replace a tensioner?

do i need washers for timing belt tensioner?(1985 jetta td)

I got this car from a previous owner and am close to finally getting it back on the road and want to make sure I do things right. I got a new timing belt tensioner and it had no bolts or washers. The old one had a large flat washer touching the engine block, then a smaller thicker washer, then the t...

Do these cars open the stock thermostats up when driving in the winter, with a small load on the engine? On my old 85 f250 I alternated dishwashing soap and calgon to clean things up after an oil/coolant exchange. That along with my inline coolant filter cleaned that system up nicely. After done I w...
