Re: Turbo conversion because.....

Short term I haven't seen a problem with adding a turbo kit to a non turbo block with stock parts and fueling. What does this mean long term I don't know, I have only been driving these cars 5 years. I pound on my cars to keep up with the bay area traffic. If it was all flat I wouldn't have a proble...

Re: Bosch 1.6 IP Shaft

Just buy a used runner that has been leaking from somebody and take it apart to clean and reseal yourself. Don't know about everybody else but the "bosch" shops around here are damn nuts when it comes to prices of touching things, like reaming a shaft to fit a set of new bearings. Internet...

Re: 1982 Caddy recently purchased - oil consumption

I do the t thing with the intake hoses on all my cars just for the hell of it? My first vw diesel I got used and abused was one of the best runners I have come across. But it ate the oil like you. If you pull the oil cap off when its running it would put train smoke into the engine bay. Compression ...

Re: Heater Core Leaking majorly--'81 VW PickUp w/1.6n/a--5sp

I'm trying to remember the layout of the box, but I don't recall there being an easy way to do this? I brought an 82 truck home earlier this year and barely anything worked, and it stank. So I yanked the dash to clean things. Allowed me to yank the whole box off to soak and clean, and apply new weat...

Re: Where's my brake fluid going?

No clue how to inspect booster first since its sealed and on the car.

But I junked an 82 jetta this year and wanted to use the booster and found my master must have pushing it in there because I tipped it over and got wet with nasty stuff :(

Re: Think I'm sucking air from the gas tank.

On another note, unless I am blind it looks like your timing belt is shredding itself terribly on the outside. You should get to the bottom of that. Make sure covers are sound and mounted correctly. I like to use the im shaft pulley with no lip as well and I think thats why they came that way on lat...

Re: Think I'm sucking air from the gas tank.

Has your injection pump been resealed? How are you sure its getting pockets of air that is stalling it out? If your tank vent is clear, you have new runs and a sealed working injection pump, I can't see how a tank that is 3/4 to full would introduce air specifically. I have seen tanks with broken in...

Re: glow plug circuit?

It only gets into the teens around here during winter and overall I haven't really had an issue with the vw stock system. BUT I have seen a relay with a cover blow out, not sure why. And there was this short period of time over a few days where the system was going crazy with power on/off in my 85 j...

Re: VE pump cold start seals

All I can add is get the right kit for your pump and just take the time to read up on some key parts to mark in relation to each other, and take the time to yank the pump off the car and reseal it all. Been there, done that. It isn't worth it on a car you plan to drive. I did the quick route twice a...

Re: glow plug circuit?

Sounds like you have issues, who knows with electrical huh? Put a meter on it and see whats actually going on hot and cold and time it. You don't want your glowplugs being stuck on, etc. Sounds to me like something is up with your wiring/battery system as well. I can start my car if I turn over the ...

Re: Diesel troubles

I had this happen in a 79 rabbit I saved. Old owners parked it because the injection pump stopped pumping/working. So they didn't know how to troubleshoot that and assumed it was fuel delivery issue. Cut the exhaust off to get to tank and replaced with a generic non diesel tank. There was no middle ...

Re: No Start

Its already been described how to do the adjustment. I have been through allot of engines/injection pumps in my short vw career and had to deal with terrible worn out bushings once, ditched that pump for parts. You could really tell by rocking the sprocket. Most of the other used injection pumps I h...

Re: 84 Rabbit truck - Should I buy it?

I did the same as you although I am taller and weigh 300 pounds. Never even sat in the truck before I bought it and fixed up, haha! I got a smaller steering wheel and other vw seats that just drop in and it helped but I literally cannot rest my feet straight, thus can't actuate the pedals properly. ...
