Re: 1980 Caddy Helper Springs?
I just started to drive my caddy with those helpers on and have never even driven one of these trucks before. I haven't even got on the freeway yet and the back end empty sure is bouncy and I'm thinking this thing will be painfull to commute in. Already got a smaller steering wheel and seats and bel...

Re: 1980 Caddy Helper Springs?
Okay, so I put a hitch on my pickup and hauled a 4x8 Harbor Freight trailer with a little boat. The truck was pretty well packed and the boat had a bunch of stuff packed into it (including four propane canisters). I have no idea how much it all weighed, but the front of the truck went up pretty hig...

Re: Is this IP leak from the top seal? 83 td
If you are mechanically inclined I really suggest you buy a seal kit, take the pump off the car and reseal it yourself. Twice I have played the game of replacing one seal only to shortly after have another leak pop up with daily driver cars. Diesel leak does nasty things to coolant hoses. A vise hel...

WTB: 1.6 mk2 crank/water pump pulleys that line up - non ac
I am not sure what is going on with my parts stash but I went to put together another engine for my truck and am using mk2 alt bracket and ac alternator. No power steering or ac. None of my combinations are working and it doesn't look like I can shim things. Maybe if you have a set you can tell me y...

Re: Temp Guage problem 1.6l n/a golf
I have had the low fluid sensor tweak out maybe less than 10% of the time. Whats wierd is sometimes I would turn the car off and then back on again and it would start working. I like that system because it has shown the truth more often than once, and if I see it flash I for sure check the level. I ...

Re: Help For 84 1.6L Inj. Pump
AFter seeing the inside of pumps that sat and used wvo, atf nor diesel purge is going to clean out a pump of the kind of crap that collects. And imagine if it does break apart that stuff and sends chunks through the whole system and through your injectors? No good. I did try the atf soak thing a few...

Re: Brake or Vacuum issues
i hate those plastic hoses/barbs. i have a ton of them i have acquired and they are all broken in one way or another. now i just cut the hard plastic line off for the fitting at the booster. and get some thick vacuum hose and use an off the shelf check valve. i don't need it for other things on my c...

Re: Front wheel wobble
If it were me there is no way I would trust that now. Is the other side tight? Get a new bearing kit and hub and have peace of mind, if it were me I would do the other side to. The wobbling when static worries me. I saw this on my 79 rabbit that I am bringing to life. I also even made a stupid mista...

Re: Lower timing cover
I had never seen a mk1 setup before. I am changing over my daily drivers to truck and rabbit and had to dive into this issue. I just used the lower timing belt cover from mk2 and then put the upper cover on where it made sense and used spacers/bolts/washers to shore everything up. Seems I have clear...

Re: fuel mileage
85 turbo jetta with acn tranny gets about 42-43mpg. This is currently mostly driving highway with speed limits at 65mph. In mornings without traffic there are good spurts where I'm almost going 80. I just drive the car with the flow. 82 non turbo jetta is getting about 45mpg and has a tranny that sp...

Re: Cooling question
on my 85 it takes a while but in summer the car will cycle and come up to temp, about halfway on the led and the lowspeed fan will come on for a minute. also if the car has been warm and i shut the car off it will run for a minute. 3/4 on the gage with mine and stock parts is approaching danger zone...

Re: Jetta died, do I need a new IP?
Long story short I have seen crazy things happen, and more than one car with tank/line issues. Now when bringing a car back to life I do the timing fresh, get my electric pump to prime fuel and run in/outlet to a jug and go from there. I brought back 2 pumps that are now in daily drivers for thousan...

is your thin plate that holds the upper timing cover bent and scraping on the cam pulley? that is all your sound reminds me of, i accidentally knocked mine out of position during a timing belt job once. noticed that noise in first startup and turned it off :) i have heard some rubbing noise from the...
