Re: MK1 Jetta won't start
I'm back for an hour. Please Google "ahu swap to mark2". Like I said before", let's not reinvent the wheel this has been done before." I think you will have everything you need by going this way but I really don't know for sure. I've been researching a Z1/AHU swap into a T4. Sinc...

Re: MK1 Jetta won't start
I forgot that 02A is a cable shifter so you need the stick shift as well. If you have a donor car I would go for the whole shooting match. Cluster, wiring harness, and brain box. You can buy a repinner for cheap and maybe wire it into your fuse box. I guess it looks like factory on a T4. Then you wi...

Re: MK1 Jetta won't start
Maybe search 82vdub hard starting he's got a lot of good write ups on hard starting and running your engine from a separate bottle. I think the 02A tranny that's for the TDI maybe the way to go. It's got the low rev's you need for the big crank 1.9. That tranny also has the bigger stub axles for the...

Re: head bolts
There's only 67 days left of winter. My cup is 1/4 full this morning. What kind of gasket are you going to use. I take it that you are doing them one at a time.

Re: Tips for a fail-proof head gasket - Any such thing???
I owned a 500 single 1952 Ariel Red Hunter. No gaskets. What a leakier. These machines were put together by Fitters. There's millions of them that live in the UK. They still building the Rolls Royce cars by hand.(maybe vw bought it can remember). Their's an company that builds handmade ball bears ov...

Re: Tips for a fail-proof head gasket - Any such thing???
I think the problem with fiber gasket is that they compress quite a bit. Metal gaskets don't need re-torquing. The fiber gasket Achilles heel is over torquing in my opinion. If you crush down too much around the studs it will end up getting pried up in the very center between the two studs. If you'r...

Re: Tips for a fail-proof head gasket - Any such thing???
Maybe 25 to 30 years ago? Just about any paper gasket had asbestos in it. Along with brake pads and pipe insulation to name just few of the asbestos products. These gaskets were superior to other gaskets because of the long strands that asbestos has. The limey reuses heat shields so I would doubt th...

Re: Cold start mystery
Bentley has starting instructions. If the engine is warm or above 10C ? I think. The advance is to be pulled out. If it's stone cold and below 10C you leave it in and pull it out when it first catch's. I'm pretty sure this was written before low sulfur diesel so you have to find your own sweet spot....

Re: Long time no see :) Engine ID quiery
Just going by my memory but I thought the code was between cylinder 3 and 4 on the front. If it has 54hp it's probably a econo diesel at least in N America anyway no turbo inrichment for the turbo. Turbo engines are 68hp and 98 ft pounds of torque. Do T4's come with 1.9TDI's installed in Swe.

Re: Which way should this part be pointing?
I've read that naphtha is the main ingredient of a lot of fuel additives. Naphtha is also great cleaner for injectors and other parts. I've never read anything on the ingredients of DP or Sea Foam. I watched a U-tube video of a guy with death wish heating naphtha and cleaning injector parts. They di...

Re: Starter Bolts
If your going to take the starter out and leave it for awhile. It's probable a good idea to put the bolts back in. But in your case jacking the tranny up would be a better idea. Turn the bolts with your hand to find the sweet spot where the tensions off the bolts. The motor has a tendency to sag and...

Re: My stepvan gone lite-up lass night
I was using a email that doesn't work any more from my old internet provider. There's a new one on my profile now so it should work now. Sorry about that.I think the emails not able to be returned has something to do with trying to send an email to your inbox.

Ya maybe don't park yours under high voltage power lines. Maybe I'll check my profile to see if something wrong.

Re: Engine ID
I think the starters are different from the 1.6. They have no nose bearing. If your AZZ takes a 02A tranny it will take one of these starters. I put a MK4 TDI starter on my MK3 tdi. The vacuum pump looks the same. The serpentine belt will make the water pump, alternator not compatible with the 1.6 a...
