1980 Caddy Helper Springs?

Okay, so I put a hitch on my pickup and hauled a 4x8 Harbor Freight trailer with a little boat. The truck was pretty well packed and the boat had a bunch of stuff packed into it (including four propane canisters). I have no idea how much it all weighed, but the front of the truck went up pretty high...

1980 VW Caddy trailer hitch install?

I'm looking to get a little utility trailer for my pickup and would appreciate any thoughts or experience about installing a ball hitch. I know there are stock bolt in units for Rabbits, but don't know about the truck.

Re: Brake Pedal Pressure

I had a similar problem with my brakes, hard pressure, impossible to lock up the wheels, etc. I have a vane pump (that replaced the diaphragm pump that was original). I opened up the pump by taking off the cover (where the hoses go in, I think it's three allen bolts). I noticed that the under side t...

Re: 1983 Jetta 1.6d 5 spd with grease car kit - Three Oaks,

Still for sale. Fixed electric (bad ground), stuff seems to work well. Blower fan now works (didn't work when I put it in BECAUSE the p.o. pulled the fuse! Duh.) I've driven it around a bit, shifts hard maybe due to the fact that there are no bushings in the linkage, needs windshield, usually vent w...

Re: wireing troubles.

Last summer I scrapped my 81 Rabbit 5-Speed that tangled with a Ford Explorer. I pulled everything I could off of it, including the wiring harness. It's been awhile since I took it apart, I know that I had all the electrics working before the smashup. I think I managed to pull the front harness comp...

1.5 diesel smoke smoke smoke

Okay my 1980 Caddy is running pretty well, when it's warm weather white smoke on start up, black smoke with full throttle (handy for tailgators). Now that it's cold here in Chicago, huge amounts of white smoke on start up. Lots of knocking until warmed up. Much more than my 1981 1.6 Rabbit had under...

Here's a link the the ebay listing, I'm only putting this up here because Jack doesn't sell these as far as I know: http://www.ebay.com/itm/vw-rubber-7mm-x-10mm-diesel-mk1-fuel-tank-line-feed-adapter-rabbit-77-84-jetta-/290752386184?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT...

Re: MK1 Pickup fuel tank

I just did this on my truck. I bought a 10mm to 7mm tapered fuel line on ebay, (can't remember where right now, store called "mk1"?) that was a part for a Jetta. It wasn't long enough to reach from the tank to the hard line, so I spliced a 7mm tube from it to the hard line. I think I bough...

Re: Bit off more than I can chew.......diesel help.

You might want to unscrew the 17mm bolt on top of the injection pump. If you can't see any fuel in there, pour in some ATF, bolt it back up and see if it starts. I had a problem of my pump draining while up on jackstands or on a slight hill.

1983 Jetta 1.6d 5 spd with grease car kit - Three Oaks, MI

I've got an extra car out at a friends place in Three Oaks, Michigan. I've been working on it a bit, but I'm in Chicago and haven't had much time and my Caddy is running well. So I'm entertaining the idea of selling it, don't know much about its history. Clear title, still in p.o.'s name. Details: T...

MK 1 radio installation

Now that I have repaired the wiring harness in my 1980 Caddy, it's time for a little luxury: an am/fm cassette radio. There was one installed by a p.o., probably the cause of the electrical fire and melted wiring harness as it seemed to be powered through the headlight toggle switch! Hard to tell wi...

Re: fuel sender

don't know any specs, but to access: remove rear seat, remove round plastic (?) plate, ungplug wires, unscrew unit. you are supposed to use a special spanner to unscrew, but you can just use a screwdriver and hammer.
