Well I pulled out the vacuum hose from the brake booster and inserted a small rubber tube attached to a syringe and pulled brake fluid out.
So that solves where it was going. Would this be from a o-ring failure or the master cylinder?
I have a new mc I'm going to install, I was just wandering.

Re: Where's my brake fluid going?
Sorry about that. It's a '81 pickup.
I'll check the floor mat.
I've put it up on ramps and pumped the brakes like crazy, but everything is dry underneath.
Anyway to check the brake booster or master cylinder before I pull it all apart?

Where's my brake fluid going?
I've got plenty of brake pressure. Always stops good.
At the end of the day driving, the level is down a 1/4'' to 1/2''.
I can't find any leak anywhere. New wheel cylinders installed.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Diesel troubles
Can it be done on the car??? Probably. Safely? I don't know. I suppose if you got all the dogs put away and had a fire extinguisher handy,.. drained the tank. You could probably get away with it. You would have to be prepared to take responsibility for any damage if it exploded and threw shrapnel. ...

Re: Diesel troubles
I took the tank off and plugged all the openings. I used an air fitting and put air in the tank. The dent came right out. It didn't take much air pressure Anyway to do this without dropping tank. Since apparently the vent hose is already blocked. Then replace the vent hose. I haven't really looked ...

Yes that's it. The tank looks like it has two spots that a jack was used on it.Fatmobile wrote: the tank vent might be clogged causing the tank to collapse.
Does it look collapsed, like someone jacked the car up with the jack under it?
I guess the tank can't be fixed? I do have a spare along with a vent hose.

Diesel troubles
It seems that I run out of fuel when the tank gets around the halfway mark. The fuel gauge may not be that accurate, but when I fill it up again all I can put in the tank is around 8 gal. I always carry a gallon diesel jug. So when it quits, I pour it in, and off to the gas station to top it off. Co...

Is there a way to test or check this ground wire to tell if it is bad?Fatmobile wrote:Ahhhh.
Sometimes the ground wire for the stock glow plug relay is bad. That will cause it to buzz.
It's located behind the fuse box, along with the heater fan ground.

Re: Winding starter- video page 3
I'll take some pics Sunday and post them.
It didn't look bad to me. Just looking at it, I would say it was good. But what do I know?
All I do know is I took a flywheel that was good, and put it in, and presto it starts.

Re: Winding starter- video page 3
Sorry for the long delay. Had to catch up on other projects.
I finely did get it back together today.
Success!! I guess it was the flywheel. It fired right up.
Thanks for everyone's help.

Re: Winding starter- video page 3
Yes I got the little cover off.
I'll try lifting up the end.
It's been a couple of days since I've worked on it.
I'll had to walk away and will come back to it later with a fresh mind and better outlook.

Re: Winding starter- video page 3
Yes that's what I need, a flywheel with a big notch in it. The picture in the Bentley is beautiful. But neither one of my flywheels have that. It was a real bear getting the tranny out also. Maybe that's what I need. Maybe both of these flywheels are wrong? Could I grind out a notch in the flywheel?...

Re: Winding starter- video page 3
Sorry it's been a few days since I've been able to work on it. Swapped out flywheels. Now trying to install tranny. I'm having a hell of a time. If I hadn't done it before, I would say it can't be done. The drive axle flange on the tranny keeps hanging up on the flywheel. I can't get it past so ever...

Re: Winding starter- video page 3
Quantum-man, No problem. I won't leave you hanging. ad, That's a good idea about the calipers. But I'm just 2 bolts and a tranny mount from dropping it out of there. I'll check it out when before I remove flywheel. On my rebuilt Bosch starter that I just purchased, the bendix gear turns the same as ...

Re: Winding starter- video page 3
Well I replaced the bushing again this morning just for fun. Now I can't get the motor to turn at all. So this tells me there has to be some kind of engagement problem with flywheel. When I get it out I'll post pics. I've got a spare flywheel in a parts truck that was engaging good before the motor ...
