Libbbybapa makes a good point about the governor. My reply assumed that when you said you removed the lever to facilitate getting the engine out of the boat, the pump was otherwise untouched. If the pump was overhauled as part of the engine overhaul, then as the previous post points out, it could be...

It is unlikely (nothing is impossible) that the governor has become disconnected. It would be helpful to know a couple of things: First of all, do you have a line scribed across the end of the throttle shaft, and several lines on the throttle lever? How many springs are wrapped around the throttle s...

IP rebuild question

I've just completed a teardown & reseal on my IP. The info here was absolutely wonderful - the work went smoothly and I now think I understand how the IP works. The pump is now back together but I failed to mark the position of the cold start lever on the splined shaft. I seem to remember seeing...

In homebuilt aircraft, we use flexible aluminium tubing for fuel and oil lines. It withstands vibration quite well. Try Aircraft Spruce website; search for "Versatube". Comes in several sizes.

OK, let's assume for the moment that it's not the pump, although stranger things have happened than 2 pumps with the same problem. For the idle speed to increase then, it must be getting fuel from somewhere. If it's not the pump, the only other places I can think of to get fuel are, (1) as a previou...

Did this problem appear suddenly, or gradually? Does the problem occur when cold or only when warmed up? When you reduce the idle speed by means of the clutch or turning the key on and off, does the idle remain where it should indefinitely? If it does, when you then step on the accelerator does the ...

The vehicle that the 109 was on is unknown. I'm getting ready to reseal my 107AD and thought this one might be good to practice on if I can get it for a reasonable price, and if it's similar.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I believe the phrase I hear most these days is "... while you're in there, you may as well...".

109 IP application?

Does anyone know what engine the 109 injection pump was used on and whether or not it will work on an 1.6na diesel? My present pump is a 107AD.

I ordered a Bosch kit on Ebay from a guy who includes a shaft seal in the order. I'm expecting to replace the water pump at the same time the IP is off the engine, even tho' it's not leaking. It looks like the original water pump. Any tips for getting those aluminium bolts out? TonyB Jacksonville, F...

Now that would have to mean that fuel is compressible. If there is a washer under the bolt then that area that had been filled with the bolt is now fuel, so for that to change your timing....the fuel would have to squish slightly. Think of pumping up a car tire vs. pumping up a bicycle tire. The sm...

I appreciate the feedback. I've ordered the seal kit. With the info here on the forum, it should be pretty straightforward. Thanks.

All the hints helped. The only thing you do when you measure the static timing is remove that bolt. Tonight I was staring at a picture of the internals of the pump & realized that the bolt formed one wall of the chamber where the fuel is pressurized. Aahhaa! Good puzzler! TonyB Jacksonville, FL ...
