The easiest way to check them without removing anything is with a clamp-on ammeter. Disconnect temp sensor, turn on glow plugs, let the gauge settle down [about 10- seconds] then read- with them cold they will draw about 7-12 amps each [depends how cold everything is] so 10 A for one, 20 A for two e...

It butts up against the l/s of the body . Some have managed to squeeze it in, some others have had to cut and "massage" the body to fit. Personally i'd rather narrow and weld the intake by the 1/2 " or whatever it takes ,rather than cut my almost pristene body

As far as noise reduction is concerned it's all in increments, not big differences. But i'd still like to keep at it. I do know that when i reconnected the big foam covered hose from the box back to the intake snorkel that runs vertically up to the rear vent the noise level went down, esp at full th...

Good idea about testing it with a vacuum gauge. The other reason i was wanting to do this was to quiet it down. More than one person has mentioned that a lot of noise produced by induction, which i know can be true if my dual weber 2.2 l beetle is anything to go by. All the oem hoses ,snorkel etc is...

Hey you have the same setup as me , a 1.9 na. Those valve covers actually have 7 seals in all. One that goes all around between the cover and head ,then 3 under and 3 on top of the cover where those 3 studs come through. Whether you replace the big seal or not, apply some RTV silicone where the seal...

pressurized intake box

Now that i bought and installed a Giles super performance pump for my 1.9 na i can tell that the intake and exhaust are restrictive. The exhaust i will worry about after [ i'll get a double outlet gasser manifold and larger pipes] but i hope i can fab up an intake easily enough. Since there seems to...

They do make a difference especially in a TDI that produces so little heat . Early last spring my friend that i sold my 98 jetta to a couple of years ago seemed to think that it wasn't as warm as it used to be. Checked the usual including the coolant GPs . The wires from the relay to them were burnt...

Bleed the clutch. sometimes if the brake fluid level drops -like when the brakes wear, air gets into the feed for the clutch circuit and then- no clutch.

Re: catalytic converter

I have a 2003 Golf TDi. Under the hood, over the radiator is an emmisions decal that states there is a catalytic converter.I assume this would be true! If you car has a catalytic converter it would have the same decal. I have heard they are useless. A friend with a Dodge pickup with the Cummins tur...

Any tank to be used for WVO should be diesel/gas compatible, made from HPDE [if i remember]. Even on the best systems there will be some blending of WVO and diesel in either tank. So unless you want a possible huge mess do some home work. The other cheap alternative is a plastic marine tank like fro...

Well i guess you cleaned out some of the intake gunk , plus some residue coke in the convertor. Be careful using brake cleaner though, i would use intake cleaner. It's less dangerous to use as it has less alcohol , plus not while the motor is running. TDI's are notorious for getting clogged intakes ...

because it's diesel and even more so, a TDi i doubt it'll ever reach those kind of temps. There is a customer at the shop where i work and he has ALH TDI in his Pinzgauer and he never reaches temps more than 800oC at the exhaust manifold. basically on a TDI the convertor probably isn't even effectiv...

I never use any WVO that's more than 6 months old especially if it hasen't been filtered. Seen way too many problems with old WVO. SOMETIMES you can tell by the smell when it's gone "off" but not always. Better not to take a chance.

all TDI's came from the factory with one. When the ecodiesels first came they were even supposed to have them.

I use one of the 12v pumps this company has. http://www.enginegearonline.com/
Small ,but seems to be quite strong. It'll pull cold unfiltered WVO up 6 ft and then through the 2 filters without a wimper.
