I use this http://etka.auto2.ru/ It help to brush up on your Romanian The JX shows mechanical lifters in the early 80's as were all the VW diesels. I haven't checked more recent ones. My engine is an MF from 1990. I think the only solution for me is to get an oil pressure gauge going so I can monito...

Tthat pump 068 115 105 BP is available in two versions, a Febi and a Meyle. They are both listed as being for Diesel Vanagon (1981-1984), not for TD Vanagon. My pickup tube should be compatible with one of my pumps (26 or 36mm). Probably I'll get the new pump and then take the old pressure relief va...

I took advantage of yesterday's balmy weather and swapped the oil pumps. I had the other pump with 26mm gears in the shed. The bigger pump gears are about 36mm. That's about 40% more flow.It took about 2 hours and I finished just as a light rain started. Result: Unfortunately, I'm still having the s...

I looked for air in the fuel lines today, and with the exception of a small bubble at the high point of the return there was none. I think that one's left over from when the fuel feed at the filter was not tight and I put a hose clamp on it rather than the spring clip that was there previously. I st...

I had the exhaust reworked today. So far so good. I brought in some pictures of really nice stainless exhausts that others had made up, mounted to what looked like factory brackets, at least on the engine side of the rubber. I also duct taped my camera to the bottom of the bumper and went for a shor...

Mysterious missing
I've put about 10,000 mi. on my 1.6TD since a full rebuild. I have a miss and stall issue that I shall describe. This occurs irregularly but only when the engine is stone cold. Pull the cold start cable, glow for about 7 seconds, crank the starter and the engine fires right up, oil pressure light go...

I had the crack welded while I wait for the guy who created this can of worms to come off his vacation. I appreciate that it's a long lever away from the engine, but it's mounted on rubber in two spots. The first is at the stock LS engine mount (inboard of the rubber) and the second on the right sid...

So I had it repaired by the same guy. Not exactly what I would have done. Now it's cracked again. My exhaust man is proposing a longer flex joint in place of the original. There doesn't seem to be room in the curve where the original cracked to put the flex there. http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/...

TD exhaust stress crack
Last summer I had my local muffler shop fabricate the exhaust for my TD conversion. Now it's cracked. Does it need to be supported as it comes off the turbo? It's mounted to the turbo side engine mount and then to the body at the tailpipe. Johann http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb15/fonorono/IMG_...
