Re: Diagnosing Overheating
Any way I can do it without disconnecting the trans? 1/4" swivel socket and an extension will work. On a Dasher, if it's the same as the Quantum, then there are actually semicircular cutouts on the lip of the transmission housing that allow you to access the back bolts with just an extension [...

Re: leaky injector
Although I've said this before, it's clearly worth repeating: To avoid leverage on the injector bosses, simply attach a u/j to the extension bar. Use 2 extension bars. Wrt the injector leak. 1) Never try and stop the body halve leak in situ. 2) With the injector out, minor leaks may be reduced, or ...

Re: 81 Diesel Dasher- Smoking and rough start
It's still smoking a lot... I see a few air bubbles intermittently coming from injector 1 to the banjo fitting on top the pump. If I push on the acel cable it puffs white smoke. Sometimes a few bubbles run in from the fuel filter. It's still really smoky and needs throttling of gas on startup for a...

Which of your pulleys have a lip? The cam pulley should be within about 3mm from the tin rear shield

Are you running a strong solution of antifreeze? That may account for your not boiling over When going up these hills are you pushing the car to the limit, or is there more in reserve? Smoking much? Here's an interesting link: https://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100529050826AAm9T9O

Re: putting a gasser tach in a diesel
A Brit called Reg Cheeseman built a circuitboard conversion for a gasser tach. I cannot search for him because I've been banned from the site that shall not be named by the 'nasty person' OmniMod, because he couldn't cope with my massive contributions in practical research as a superior engineer......

Re: 81 Diesel Dasher- Smoking and rough start
I advanced the timing without using the dial gauge and it runs better. Less smoke- starts easier. Still getting some air bubbles from the links between the injectors to the IP banjo- Not sure if this is air just bleeding out from when I replaced the lines today or something else. Now I've connected...

Great; so now list what you had to do to get it running, as a demonstration of how little a stored vehicle needs to be a runner again. We're better than a Bentley bible by the wayjseilicki wrote:IT RUNS and DRIVES !!!!!!

Re: mk2 golf that has been sitting for since 1995ish
Lots of good advice, perhaps some unneccessary. When you changed the fuel filter what did you find? Was there diesel? How did it smell? What is wrong with the starter? Did it merely click? I would first try and crank engine over using a spanner on the crank bolt. If it turns by hand, then take engi...

Are you running veggie oil, or biodiesel?
Are you shutting down engine with non diesel in the pump? Maybe this is your issue?

No need for a turbo. If you have a turbo , then you can fit it and benefit, without having a turbo injection pump.

Re: mechanical head on a turbo block?
Hope I'm not digging myself a hole. Pretty simple really. It's a 1.6 block with one oil drain hole but it has the little oil squirters in the cylinders. It also has turbo diesel pistons. I'm not sure what it came out of. I just need a head for it. Same engine as mine then, essentially. If I remembe...
