Re: Rusted battery bracket/bolt - any tips?
I had good luck with one of these on an old rusty oil pan bolt once. Really worked on a bolt for a while and this thing loosened it in a few hits. I think I paid $10 for the last one I got at autozone not too long ago. If you arent familiar with it - it works like an impact wrench, you can use an ex...

Re: cooling system troubleshooting
I pulled apart a waterpump today to check it out, it had a bunch of orange RTV oozed over inside from the previous owners assembly job.
Most of it wasnt even sticking to the metal anymore, i`m sure plenty of it was inside the engine and everywhere else.

Re: 1980 Caddy fuel lines
I don`t have the info specifically for a caddy, but if yours has the line that "necks down" from the tank to the fuel lines this is what I bought, and worked perfect:

And the steel lines are 7mm aka 1/4" if buying local.

Re: VW 1.6L Marine Engine
Looks like it could be lead, used to try and seal up the injector. I had a injector seat deteriorate and leak and pretty much do what you are talking about - I swapped the head out and problem is gone.

Re: Cold start lever
Try this for an idle increase .. I have this on my Jeep. Also, it would be a good idea for the rabbit if I were warming it up for a while before I get in and go for a long trip. http://www.4x4xplor.com/handthrottle.html http://www.stu-offroad.com/engine/throttle/jeep_throttle.htm And seems some peop...

Re: Valve shims for 1980the dasher
Very COOL Carlos.............. :) Thanks .. i`ve slowly been trying to put together a little box of every shim size to make it easy to ship around the country. I have 5-6 or more of every size but would like to find more of the smaller and larger sizes to round it out & keep enough around for w...

Re: Valve shims for 1980the dasher
If you have the early head/engine still - I assume you do from your sig, I have a tool I can send you to use.
If you had a ballpark of shim sizes I could send you other related sizes and you`d be good to go.

Re: Valve shims for 1980the dasher
Yeah the shims are all the same size. There are two widths of tools - the space between the lifters is wider on later heads.
I think the owner of this site has a rental set. If you checked all the sizes you have and then posted what you calculate you need, we could probably do some trading.

Re: CV axle fail? torn boots, slight clicking
Yeah, really seems the newer boots are not nearly as good of quality as OEM were. I was hoping to save two of my original vw boots but they had hairline cracks starting.

Re: CV axle fail? torn boots, slight clicking
I did both of mine not too long ago. By the time I was all done replacing the boots I could have replaced the entire axles and everything for a similar cost, via ebay. It was also crazy messy and time consuming. Mine were rumbling a little when coasting. It never developed into the clicking during t...

Re: Bubbles around glowplug
So the copper washer was used to try to seal a glowplug seat? I have an eroded seat and similar issues as you right now. If you aren`t using heat shields at the base of the injectors that will cause all sorts of problems starting with lower compression, overheated injectors, etc. What year is this o...

There was one here not too long ago, got parted out even though it ran perfect and was flawless inside & out. Guy got more parting out than selling.

Re: Anyone got an 11mm head they can measure?
Got a bolt and confirmed that one head is a 12mm head on an 11mm block with no spacers or alignment.
The other head is definitely 11mm.

Re: Anyone got an 11mm head they can measure?
Alright guys, thanks. If one of these is in good flat shape i`ll swap it onto my 12mm engine. I discovered one of the injector seats is eroding away and not sealing well.

Anyone got an 11mm head they can measure?
As the title says ... the two 11mm engines I have pulled apart recently MAY have 12mm heads. I measured roughly with a caliper after realizing the bolts seemed too lose and I get around 12.17mm in the head bolt bores. Now, the head bolts themselves measure around 10.86mm in the non threaded thickest...
