I would be modifying an existing motor. It does not sound like it would be worthwhile to use the VE pump. I am currently the only volunteer for the SAE supermileage team at my university. That means that next year I can run the team and basically do anything I want. The only engine requirement is th...

I highly doubt any kind of fuel additive would be allowed. I would be going for extreme efficiency which is why I was thinking it would be best to run one injector off all four lines. If I were to even consider doing this the first thing I would do is tear apart my old pump and rebuild it to get a g...

VE pump expert opinion sought

Could the VE pump be used to run a one cylinder engine? For the sake of efficiency I would think it would be best to run one injector off all four lines. That would probably be a little difficult though just thinking of the problem in terms of a fluid power system. The pump would also have to run sl...

The diameter of the one I bought is 15.40mm. However I made my own by grinding down a piece of copper pipe. That one is not very round and I was getting measurements all over the place. I found that the pin would allow the pump to fall from TDC slightly and when I would go to set the timing I would ...

If it is NA I dont know how much oomph you can expect. Certainly nothing like a gasser. Downshift and flooring might give some oomph, the engine would then be running fast enough to be sucking in enough air to actually burn that fuel being dumped in. I have the auto though and have never driven stic...

I am surprised that no one brought this up but you should not use starting fluid. I just want to add this so that somebody wont see this post (I would think starting issues are by far the most common) and try using it.

I resealed with the ebay kit and have not had any sign of a leak. It has been about 6 months but I have no idea where pump leaked before (the p.o. gave it to me).

Low compression means good cold starts? I thought that was one reason the IDI engine has such a high compression ratio.

It is very straightforward. The only suggestion I could make would be to mark the alignment of the lever and arm since there is only a spline. I replaced the torx head cap screws (I have no idea of how to properly refer to these) with regular socket head cap screws as I found I was stripping them le...

If you are going to drill the holes yourself you may want to consider having a special drill made. In a situation like this you take a drill of the size you need and have the end cut to act like a guide. I dont really know the specifics but I guess it is shaped so that it has enough contact with the...

My Jetta has multiple alternators availableincluding higher amperage for a vehicle with AC. Would it be the same for a rabbit? Would these alternators fit the rabbit? The v-belt setup for my vehicle with AC is probably the biggest pain in the arse you can find. I have retightened some of the belts s...

I find that when my car has warmed up just a little and I shut it off the glow plugs dont want to come on. This is a bit of an issue on colder days as it will take 10-20 seconds cranking to start. Maybe Im just a little too paranoid but I want the starter to last as long as possible (I have the auto...

I hope to find the cash to replace my injectors sometime in the near future. I think I have read in the past something along the lines of half a turn out quarter turn back in for injectors that have never been removed before. There was also something about the orientation of the ratchet/breaking bar...
