Re: oil leak between head and block

Computer broke down but I'm back. I cleaned the area real good with a solvent and got it to bare metal. When it's running I see little spurting of oil coming out the joint between the head and the block. This is only one area that I can tell. It's on the front side of the engine, nearer the driver s...

Re: oil leak between head and block

Okay, have to undo what I fixed on the valve cover gasket but I guess I'll get out the Bentley and re-torque the head bolts. Thanks.

oil leak between head and block

I've been chasing oil leaks. Looks like I've solved the majority of the leaking. This was coming from the valve cover gasket. One very small leak persists and it appears to be coming from the joint between the head and the block.

Is this possible?

heated driver seat

I'd like to install a heated driver seat in my 1989 Jetta. In the local auto salvage yard I found a MK3 (1993?) seat with the heating components and switch. Anybody know if the mounting to the floor is the same for MK3 as it is for MK2? Thanks.

Re: 1989 Jetta rear wheel cylinder

I went to the Wagner Brakes site. That worked good. New brake components, including wheel cylinders, all installed and working good as new again.

Thanks.

1989 Jetta rear wheel cylinder

How do I determine which size rear wheel cylinders for my 1989 Jetta? They are offered in 14.3mm bore and 17.5mm bore.

Thanks!

Re: Steering Wheel Shakes

I'm back on this problem. Last night I discovered the lower balljoint passenger side has a lot of play. Is this something a somewhat competent do-it-yourselfer can replace?

Re: Steering Wheel Shakes

If there is a warp to the rotors I can't detect it. I did the test procedure and it seems like a good, logical test. After the test I nstalled my "summer" set of tires to see if this would prove the problem is the tires. No joy and I'm scratching my head.

Re: Steering Wheel Shakes

Sounds like a great way to test out the rotors and tires. Soon as time (and weather) permits, I'll do this. Thanks!

Re: Steering Wheel Shakes

My previous car was a Taurus and was notorious for frequent warped rotors. In that vehicle the harder I pushed the brake pedal the more the steering wheel shook. My Jetta seems different. When I press harder the shaking goes away. I puzzled.

Re: Steering Wheel Shakes

I worked on it tonight. I rotated the tires front to rear. The rear tires have been in questionable condition for some time. I put them on the front and it shakes more. I've come to the conclusion the shaking is there all the time, just more the faster I go. And when I apply light brake pressure it ...

Steering Wheel Shakes

At higher speeds on the highway, when I apply some brake I get a shaking in the steering wheel. Through trial and error, if I apply the brakes harder the shaking goes away. It's only when I apply light pressure to the brakes. Could this be as simple as tires out of balance? If not, I wonder what els...

Re: Injection Pump problem too

This afternoon I rigged up a spare windshield washer jug and it's pump to the infeed line to the IP. Fuel out goes back to the ws washer jug so the fuel can circulate. Ran this for a couple minutes to see that IP is all primed and no air bubbles. Cranked the engine and it won't start at all. Eventua...

Re: Injection Pump problem too

Whatever is wrong is showing much different symptoms now than at the beginning of this post. Presently, the engine will race upon starting, very high RPMs guessing 2500 or more but just for a couple seconds and then run out of fuel and stall. This occurs without even touching the accelerator. If I u...

Yes, clear lines; no bubbles.
