Re: Tips for a fail-proof head gasket - Any such thing???

Reviving an old thread with new questions: 1.) when it comes to head gaskets, which brand(s) is best? I see some differences in the silicone bead approach, and I remember a while back helping out a friend who was struggling with a Chinese gasket leaking coolant at the front when torqued. 2.) Re: Turn signals not working.

the turn signals on my 86 Jetta sometimes get wonky if the hazard switch is activated. Then it takes some fiddling with the hazard switch to get the turn signals working properly again.

manual steering rack

My 86 Jetta steering rack recently developed some looseness inside. Anyone ever have one of these apart? are they adjustable/rebuildable? If not, where is a good source for a quality replacement? I have rebuilt steering boxes in older cars before, but never a rack.

Re: WTB: 1.6 non-turbo downpipe flange

good pint on the midas thing

I assumed that gasser flanges would likely be rustier due to higher operating temp

Mine is a little pitted, but I think it'll last a while. Won't last as long as the stainless downpipe I welded to it though...

Re: Speedometer Circuit Board

if you can solder, you can repair the printed circuit using small gauge wire to bridge the tear in the printed circuit. Just scrape off the outer layer of plastic insulation to expose the copper printed circuit, and solder the bridging wire to it. Once done, clean off the repair and cover it with a ...
