$420 to change the GPs is absolutey ridiculous. GPs cost about $12 each, depending where you get them. If you know how to change a spark plug, you should be able to change a GP. Time wise....depending how mechanical you are, maybe 1 hour to change them. You have to remove the electrical bridge, whic...

I don't know about the A3, as I own and A4 TDI. Paying VW isn't really necessary, as VAG COM software is available from RossTech. I would suspect that setting it with the software would be more accurate, as it takes all the variables into account, fuel temp, lift, etc. There are lots of people who h...

Another option, copy down the part # on your relay, and then head to a junk yard and check all the diesel Rabbits, Jettas, Quantums, etc for a matching # relay. They should use the same relay. I can't imagine a junk yard wanting more than $5 for a used relay. Maybe try Ebay. If you can't find one at...

If your car is a 5 speed, you have the coolant heater, if auto, no coolant heater. You really don't even need a temp sensor. If you have a multi tester, that will work just fine. Or even a test light if you have that. Remove the GP harness. If you use a test light, connect it to the positive bat ter...

This trick works for mice, so it should work for rats. Get some moth balls, and sprinkle them in a flat cardboard box like cans of soda or beer come in, or a few pie pans. Put one on your garage floor under where your engine is usually and another toward the back. When you park you car, the heat wil...

Assuming the person is moderately experienced with VAG-COM, he/she should know how to do the MAF check. It involves going into the engine module and making a few runs in 2nd or 3rd gear from 2000 RPM up to and past 3000 RPM. The readings should be within a specified range. The FAQ's on tdiclub.com e...

It sounds like classic MAF failure. The easiest check it to unplug the MAF and drive around. If there seems to be more power, the MAF is dead, or dying. If there's no noticable difference, try to find someone with VAG-COM software in your area, have them plug in and do a road test. It's not too like...
