On a tuff heat shield I have used an easy out and a torch. The easy out will wedge tight in the heat shield hole so you can pull it out. The hole under the heat shield on the 1.5 head is smaller that the 1.6 so don't use to large of an easy out. The hole under the heat shield is tore up pretty bad....

OK but I'll have to wait till the wife gets home to help with posting pics. In the mean time I have been getting set up to pull off timing belt. I have turned the crank clockwise to get to TDC, but it stopped a hair before that point. It really won;t go any further and I hate to put a cheater bar on...

Fatmobile, I missed you post at first. I'll give that a try. When I look down the other chambers after the shields have been removed, there looks like there is a bottom to it. With a hole a little bigger then whats in the shield. It looks like there is a rubber ring or seal? Am I seeing this wrong? ...

1.5 heat shield stuck
I got all out but one. Lots of carbon build up. I tried prying it out. Then tapping around the edges. Next I guess I got too agressive and punched a hole through the heat shield. Is there a insert in below the heat shield? If so , do I need to pull the head to clean it out? Or did I mess up the head...
