189Deg F Thermostat

Post by piglet_74 »

I'm finally getting back to the conversion and I have been watching my temp gauge closely. I rarely ever get over 180F. I'm usually running around 175. I'm thinking about installing a 189 so I have the extra heat capacity for getting veg up to temp. Is anyone else doing the same thing. I have a manual fan switch and VDO gauge to monitor for over heating so I should be OK running a little hotter. I figured when I open the cooling system up to plumb in the veg HIH I should do the block heater and thermo all at once. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. THanks, Rob.

I run the VW gasser thermostat and fan switch in my cars.
Check your new thermostat in hot water before installing.
'91 Golf gasser converted to a 12mm pump, M-TDI.
'84 1.6TD Rabbit with a VNT-15 turbo, still setup to run on vegetable oil.

Wow. Cool I looked it up on line and it looked like a 195 so I should be OK with the 189. My fear is that going down hills on the way to work the temp drops sharply without load so hopefully this will help . Good to know there are options though. Napa has about 6 dif temp settings. Thanks, Rob.
