My DIY Tank

Haven't tested it yet, and it's actually going to go in a Benz. Anyway, it's a plastic 6 gallon tank from Walmart with the supply coolant line entering on the left through a 5/8 heater hose into a connecting brass fitting to a copper line (the copper line is fed into the tank with a rubber hose grommet surrounding it, hopefully protecting the plastic on the tank).

It's a small tank, but I like the idea of only heating 6 gallons at a time, and having reserve veggie oil onboard for fillups every 100 miles or so. The coolant will be 180 degrees going through the tank to heat the WVO, so I'll find out if the tank can withstand the heat.

The WVO feed line will be Hose On Hose coming out next to the coolant supply line, wrapped in foam insulation.

The pics didn't come up but it shounds good. How is the tank holding up to the heat? 180F might be kind warm for blow molded polymer plastics. dont want to fill your trnk with WVO

I actually had the tank in the back seat of the car. I wanted to be able to keep an eye on it.

It worked pretty good transferring heat and it did not melt from the hot coolant. My only problem was the grease feed line coming out of the front of the tank was not sealed good enough and constantly dripped. It made a mess...I drove it for about 150 veggie miles then took the grease kit off it and sold the car......saved my grease parts for a future conversion or for backup on George......it was a fun project and I didn't lose any money doing it! the best way.... :D

Do you run grease?

grease fuel

I do not run grease, bio-diesel or WVO right now. I got the pickup about a month ago and have been going thru it trying to get the MK1 bugs out. I have to do the suspension, straigthen the left rear wheel (Bent at the hub), reseal and calibrate the IP, get the vent windows glued back on (long story), replace the windshield (allready sealed where it leaks on the bottom), and replace all the fluids. Not really in that order but I want to know she is dialed in 100% before I add WVO or anything. My wife is the girly girl type and is not wild about having a cetrifuge and old fryer oil in the garage. I want to do it but I will have to set up a bio-diesel refinery or WVO plant in a storage unit up the road when I do start running it. If I run waste oil i will mount a tank under the truck bed and tie in the fuel fill hole to it with an electric switch valve so it will be discrete. after it is 100% mechanicaly sound and efficient I am going to redo the interior so it will be perfect.

Definitly will. Once i get the mechanics done i will start a thread about the interior upgrades and such. I am going to keep it very conservative orginal looking but more functional.
