Glow plug symbol blinks on display whiler driving

Last night I ran to the store. On the way home I noticed the glow plug symbol began blinking on my dash as I drove my 2003 TDi Golf. What does this mean? My first guess this is just a CHECK ENGINE light

The TDIs have their own check engine light. Usually, when the glow plug light blinks while driving its indicative of a lightbulb (brake, parking, etc) burned out on the car or water in the fuel.
