MK4 golf, interior lights

when i open my drivers door it doesn't operate the interior lights, and if i dont get in and start the car striaght away it trys to lock itself and the alarm starts. the question that i have is, is the door switch part of the lock, and has any one else had this prob?????? :!: :!: :!:
