No turbocharger cool down time?

This forum is for TDI (Turbo Direct Injection) questions/posts. Non-TDI Motors (Including the 1.6, and 1.9 or other variant turbo diesel motors) should go in the VW Diesel General Forum

No turbocharger cool down time?

Post by larnacht »

Why doesn't a VW Passat TDI require a few minutes of idle time at the end of a trip, to cool down the turbocharger, and it's bearings?

My diesel pickup truck requires 1 to 5 minutes of cool down time, depending on the load it was under.

Can I lengthen the life of the turbocharger by idling my engine a few minutes?

most modern turbos shield the heat away from the berrings, thus they do not fry the oil anymore :)
