Removal of Pilot Bearing

Post by vwtopia »

I was wondering what the trick is for removing the pilot bearing? I would like to pull it out in decent shape because it is not that old and I need to put it in a different engine that I am getting together to put in my 82 Diesel Vanagon.

Thanks for any and all advice,
Kevin

Pilot bearings can't be that expensive, it'd probably be easier to get a new one.

get agreasegun and pack the crank completely with grease, then get something the same diameter as the input shaft likke a piece of wooden dowl and push it into the bearing until you feel the resistance of the grease, you then simply hit the dowl with a hammer.if you have put enough grease in there you will se the bearing start to move out, asit does keep filling the crank with as much grase as necessary to fully remove the bearing.
