throttle cable adjustment?

Post by vwtopia »

Can the length of the throttle cable be shortened? I have about 1/8 to 1/4 inch play in the cable. I guess the real question is can it be shortened without cutting it. I didn't see anyway to adjust it at the injector pump without adjust the pump itself. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

On the Rabbits, I slide the ball on the throttle lever, on the injection pump(the cable connects too) farther down the shaft.

onthe van the throttle cable adjustment is under the pedals in the front..

theres a trapezoidal box unscrew that and then adjust the slack in the cable make sure you get full pedal travel

Dan, thanks for the info. I finally got around to trying to adjust the cable and it was exactly as you said. I'm had some other problems with my vanagon but the other day I took it for a test drive and was amazed how much sooner I could get it up to 60 mph without having to go down hill. Thanks
