I have a re-built 1.6 liter diesel that I just started. It is running on 2 cylinders. The problem is the diesel injection pump. I pulled the pump and gravity fed the fuel port, put a battery accross the fuel solenoid and turned the unit clockwise with a rachet. Sure enough, oil is only injected at the bottom two ports.
I got another pump out (Junkyard) and performed the same test, none of the ports produced oil.
Is there a secret to priming these pumps or are these two pumps junk? I really don't want to spend 400 bucks on a rebuilt pump.

priming
remove the "OUT" bolt and fill there, you will know when it's full when fuel goes out the lower bolt
failure rate is relatively low, usually just a seal that needs replaced.
if you can move the shaft in and out, that is bad!
