Need a gas cap...

Post by FineFrank »

Well I finally did it. I lost the gas cap for my 83 rabbit diesel, and need a new one.
Anyone have a spare factory cap they'd like to part with? I tried one from NAPA and it doesn't fit or look right(yeah, I know, I'm a vain bastard).

gas cap

I left mine on top of the car once ... and found it in the middle of the intersection and broke up.
vwpieces might be able to help you. I started a post that linked to his stuff ... I remember seeing some fuel caps there.

Hello Frank,
Whaty style cap does your car have? I have a threaded style cap I can help you out with. This is the cap used on my German TD Jetta. I am not positive the American made diesel used the same caps but I think they did.

You can probably find half a dozen at your local parts yard...

fuel cap

With fuel getting so valuable, you might try to find a locking fuel cap.

I always set my cap on the fuel pump. That way, when I drive off and leave it, there is a chance that I can return later and the attendant will have it or it will still be sitting there. NEVER put it on the car as you now know what can and will happen!!

Yeah, good idea. next time. Maybe I'll attach it to the car with a string... Not.
Thanks for the idea.
