Turbo rebuild question

I have separated the aluminum turbo cover from the body of the turbocharger to make it easier to polish the inside. There is a thin gasket involved which tore upon separation. As the turbo seems tight, I don't care to go any deeper into the unit, so I am not going to order the rebuild kit, which would have this gasket. As this is on the "cool side" of the turbocharger, wouldn't some high-temp silicone sealant work fine for putting it back together? thanks.

I had the same problem and couldn't find a replacement "O" ring. So, I used black hi temp gasket maker and it worked fine.
