which turbo and why?

I had an interesting talk with a fella that converts vanagons to diesels. He said when using TD's he prefers to use a k14 or t2 rather then the k24.

i know the k14 is smaller, which means it'd spool quicker, but i'm trying to figure out what the major advantages of either would be.

any input or links that may explain this to me would be great.

It depends on what boost pressure you're running. If you are running stock fuel and stock boost of 10 psi or even up to 15 psi, you gain absolutely nothing from the K24 except an extra 1,000 rpms of turbo lag. The K14 or T2 is a much better choice at those boost levels.If you want to run more boost than 15psi or so, the k14 will be out of its efficiency range and a different turbo would be a better choice.
