IP throttle bushing length ??

Post by Vincent Waldon »

Hi all: 1986 TD Jetta with Bosch # 0 460 494 182 IP (VW part # 068 130 081F)... exactly like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.de/016-Einspritzpumpe-V ... 0069595949

It's leaking at the throttle shaft and the shaft is quite wobbly... gonna replace the O-ring and the bushing while I'm at it.

My Bosch dealer has multiple part numbers listed for the bushing and needs to know how tall it is (19mm 24mm ... evidently there are 6 different heights). They are 3-4 weeks away and I'd like to order it in advance of pulling my pump apart.. only want to do that once.

By any chance does anyone have this particular pump apart on a bench somewhere and can stick a mike on the throttle bushing ??

Thanks in advance...

Did you ever get this figured out?
I've been messing with some pumps and might need to know this some time.

Unfortunately I can't help you but I can tell you that a very good fuel injection shop that I took my pump to for new bushings got this one wrong on the first try. That tells me that information might be sketchy even to the pros. Got my pump all back together before I discovered this. PITA. Just my experience, though.

Maybe we could start a little database - as guys take pumps apart they could record their bushing length? Of course this assumes that everyone has their original governor cover on.....

There may be no pattern but yet again there may be. Just a thought.

Nope... pump is still in the car... the leak didn't progress past "damp" and I'm getting ready to part the car out.

I do know that the Bosch shop is correct... since my original posting I've been under the hood of a few more diesels... and the bushing length seems to vary a bit, even for the standard 1.6l TD application.

I found that there's two dimensions they will want - bushing height and the thickness of the little flange on the underside.

I think there's two flange thicknesses and ours (mine at least) is the thin one, something like 2mm or so vs. 5ish mm.

Height of mine is "short" at 19mm, sits flush with the boss on top of the pump. There's something like 3 or 4 total heights out there, as I understand.

PN 1 460 324 315 is for the short bushing - cost about $20 from a good pump shop. Application in my case is for a vanagon pump and was same as in a random LDA cover that I had around.
