What else should I do??

Post by CoolAirVw »

I have oil contamination in my antifreeze and I'll be removing the motor to do.....

Head gasket
Complete Gasket & seal set to fix some oil leaks
Cooler
Clutch
Radiator Hoses ect.
Mounts

My question is..
Are the mounts Jack sells good quality that will help my vibration and last?

Is there anything I should check or replace while I have the engine out? Oh by the way, thanks for providing the forum. I have lots of fun and learn alot haning out there.

Off topic question... I seem to be posting alot. I've heard the term "Post Whore" on some other forums. Hope I'm not becoming that!

Thanks

Post all you want as long as it's not spam. Anyway, you should pull the intermediate shaft and see if the bearings are flakey.

I'd be inclined to check for ring / bore wear (replace/hone as required), main/rod bearings if needed, test/replace the glowplugs (much easier to replace with the head on a bench !). AAZ metal head gasket, and if you're feeling really generous treat your engine to a new 36mm oil pump. And, just for Andrew, new injector nozzles, assuming the ones you have are at least 60K miles old.

She'll purr like a kitten when you're done and be good for another 250K miles.

I assume he's talking about his un-crushed 85. In that case if the engine is original it would be a solid lifter one and fairly difficult to retrofit the AAZ headgasket.

OK, great idea.

Yes! yes, maybe I could reclaim some MPG if I do that and have the injectors pop-tested or calibrated or whatever.

Man, Jacks gonna make a killing on all the parts I'm gonna buy! :D

When I went through my motor mount fiasco, I wanted to get the heavy duty version too. But I could only find one type, one part number, so that was my only choice. It's supposedly the "heavy duty" version and the "normal" one isn't made anymore... well, I guess time will tell.
